Real Flight G2

I have an oppurtunity to buy it used. Will this work on todays systems, and is it reasonable at $65? Was it bugy? I want it for my son (30 yrs old) who has expressed and interest in getting into rc. His time is at a premium right now so this might get the bug to bite a little harder.

RE: Real Flight G2

Hi Ed, Well, I like mine which was a Real Flight Deluxe and then upgraded to a full G2. I run it with a 7 year old system (Windows ME, 32MB video card which is small, 1000MH clock speed Pentium III and 365M ram. I do get a little stutter when in the heavily treed fields. I have several of the accessory disks which provided some interesting models. The downloads from the Great Planes and other sites have also greatly added to the versility. I can fly some 3D but not all the manuevers as the software just won't handle it correctly. Standard aerobatics are great. The ability to turn on smoke helps flying in staight lines or round circles, etc. I use a transmitter interface so I can use my own Futaba transmitter. I think Airtronics and JR transmitters are not compatible, tho.

For a $65 price it would be a good buy, if you can get it loaded onto your son's computer. I would have a little contract with the seller that allows you to back out/ get money back etc. if you can't get it to load and run.

You might need to call Great Planes support to see if it can be ran with Windows VIsta if that is what he has for an operating system.

Ed,

Also check if the controller is game port version or USB. The older versions of G2 came with a gameport controller, and most newer machines do not have this. Yu can buy a USB to gameport converter.

You should have no problems with it at all. Go to knifeedge.com forums and ask under the support thread to make absolutely sure though.

It comes with the usb and game port controllers. Whats the minimum speed processor needed? If my son doesnt want it I might buy it until he see's the light. My pc is just a 866mhz work station. It has a pretty high powered video bd, it was used for cad work at home. When we stopped doing that they told me to just keep the pc. Couldnt use it at work anymore since it was old, to them.

Edwin,

I've got G2 running on a nine year old, 700 Mhz machine, and it runs fine.

RE: gameport converter for a G2, is this a common item to purchase? My G2 has a fifteen pin connection, and my newer computer doesn't have a port for that; just extra usb slots. Would a gameport converter fix the problem? Fred.
