Hi,
I agree with Daren, "free" is a pretty good starting point and as well as FMS there's also: http://www.preflightsim.com/ (it's heli simulation is better than FMS). Cliff |

FLIGHT SIMULATORS
IF YOU WANT A FIRST CLASS FLIGHT SIM WITH OUTSTANDING GRAPHICS AND SUPERB FLIGHT PHYSICS, THEN TRY IKARUS AEROFLY PROFESSIONAL. I HAVE G2 REALFLIGHT AND CHANGED TO AEROFLY PROFESSIONAL AFTER I SAW THIS SIM IN ACTION AT THE WRAM SHOW LAST WEEK END IN WHITE PLAINS NEW YORK.IN MY HUMBLE OPINION REALFLIGHT G2 IS MORE EXPENSIVE THAN AEROFLY AND NOT AS GOOD.

For soaring I prefer CRRSIM by Jan K & Mark Drela.
This simulator offers two flying venues: A sod field for thermalling, and Cape Cod for slopin & DS'ing. DS'ing? Right! Just set the wind to blow offshore (180 degrees) and pick a suitable plane from the launcher's selection. It's very realistic, except that you can get energy from the boundary layer a little easier than in real life.ther When you fly in onshore conditions, you're flying cruising a long beachline. It is very realistic, even in high-g maneuvers where the other two fail. My only complaint is that there is no way (with my gamecommander) to set up expo or any kind of mixes. In ds'ing the elevator is waaaay more sensitive than I prefer. However, each plane is described in a file with user-changeable parameters and with the appropriate knowledge you can change throws, CG, etc. The best part is that all your flying on the slope is low, so you can always see the ground, thus keeping perspective. I have G2 and Ikarus's simulator, and for my style of flying CRRSIM is the best of the three. It's free. Just go to yahoo groups and look for the CRRSIM group. All the progs & docs are in the files section. I used my Ikarus game commander as the interface. As you may know, it comes hard-wired as a mode 1 device, but just swap the elevator wire for the throttle wire in the commander (not the red wires!) and the device is now mode 2. |
