RE: G4?!?!?!?!?!?
You sure you saw the new controller and software. Or just the Expansion Pack 4?
|
RE: G4?!?!?!?!?!?
200% positive I looked at the box a couple times! 199.99 has the new controller with the digital trims. He had 2 of them
|
RE: G4?!?!?!?!?!?
I have seen that you can fly off the water which is a really nice addition ! Just miss the winter snow flying for a complete simulation ;)

RE: G4?!?!?!?!?!?
ORIGINAL: da Rock Great Planes doesn't show it on their website. Tower doesn't show it in the New Arrivals and doesn't list it for pre-order. You sure you saw the new controller and software. Or just the Expansion Pack 4? http://www.readyheli.com/Great_Plane...p/gpmz4420.htm http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXSNP2&P=ML |
RE: G4?!?!?!?!?!?
Yea you can fly off water
|
RE: G4?!?!?!?!?!?
Actually Tower was the first to offer it for sale that I know of (I ordered mine right away) and received it this morning actually. Tower's supply was limited and they ran short already. The next stock of shipments is listed as late Nov.
As a side note so I don't get a ton of questions I can't answer: I have yet to install G4 as I am also in the process up updating my graphics card. |
RE: G4?!?!?!?!?!?
please let us know how it goes once you get everthing set up.

RE: G4?!?!?!?!?!?
That's the first time I've seen Tower's search engine fail. I input "Real Flight 4" and got the Expansion Pack and the Add-On. Not a hint about the new version. Been doing it for a couple of weeks now.
Forums are valuable things............ |
RE: G4?!?!?!?!?!?
Any word on what they'll rebate to G3.5 owners?
I thought I'd seen something about that? |

Also, Knife Edge has announced that a rebate will be given to any current owners of G3.5, but the amount has not been announced yet. |
RE: G4?!?!?!?!?!?
There were rumors of a rebate when they went to 3.5 that never materialized, but I thought I read they would rebate a whopping $25 for 3.0 and 3.5 owners. Be still my beating heart.
Their interpretation of rewards to their loyal customers is very lack-luster, and that's exactly how I feel about wasting money for version 4. Upgrading from 3.0 to 3.5 caused me the expense of upgrading my video card, and the card I now have is not powerful enough to run their latest version of whiz-bang, so I'll get to spend another $100+ for a new video card. Their Expansion discs only have a couple of models that interest me, but you have to load the whole damned disc to get those few models. I think I'll wait for version 5+ so they can finally get the @#$@! physics corrected, and get the software fixed to allow me to use the hard drive space when / if I want to, and save myself the money and headaches. ymmv |

RE: G4?!?!?!?!?!?
I played it at my hobby shop, just got loaded today, and it didnt seem all that great. I think it might have been the computer. It seemed really jumpy. The float planes and water was pretty cool. I really have not played around with it all that much. It did take FOREVER to load different planes and airports. Good chance that is the computer and not the game but dont know. The radio was nice, those digital trims were pretty. I think it had 4 or 5 switches and had a menu button on the radio. Had a really good selection of planes with is nice compared to teh FS1 he had on there. The fields I flew at were nice to. I will play with it more later, if anybody else had tried it please comment I would like to know how it is.

I'm pushing the hardware on this little computer as it is and don't want to put it on the other computer. I was hoping for some improved physics, kind of like the first or second (?) update to 3.5 did address a lot of the physics problems I saw with the initial release. The other thing that interests me is the better controller. If it takes more RAM and a bigger video card AGAIN.... I don't think I'll go for it just to get a better controller...[sm=idea.gif] |
RE: G4?!?!?!?!?!?
I found out that he had it on 3d field and i dont the my lhs owner has a good enought computer but once you put it on photofield its really nice. I like it and its going on my christmas list. For the people that have it; does it take a long time to load from field to field? That also might be the computer.

RE: G4?!?!?!?!?!?
I bought it and installed it yesterday. I had been using a G2 unit for about the last 3 years. The graphics are indeed way better than the G2, however I don't know how they compare with the G3.5 as I have never used one. A couple of my concerns are with the flight physics with the airplanes. Both are sort of realated--
a. How good are the flight physics when it comes to crashing, a thing I was very good at in G2. With the "hundreds of sensor points for the most realistic reaction to impacts" that is advertised I find it harder to crash damage the planes than it was on the old G2. No it is not from my flying abilities improving to the point I can't crash anymore. As of yet I have not found a way to make the landings more realistic as with the Landing Setting area of the G2. Also when the aircraft leave the runway onto the rough ground the aircraft continue to move as smoothly as if they were still on the runway. b. You can fly off of water in G4. Water planes float and the land planes sink, everything seems good there. But why is it that I can put the PBY on the runway, wheels up as the plane has no retracts for the wheels or floats like the real model that is being modeled, and make several take-offs and landings with no damage at all? I can see that with the Cub on floats as it also has wheels. I had to turn down some of the graphics (shadows and reflections and such) as the view on screen was kind of jerky however it is recommended that you have 256 mb video card and I am running a 128 mb card. The largest reduction I used was to reduce the vegitation density to 0% which is ok as when you are flying why would you be looking at the bushes and the grass? The computer I am running is an Intel dual-core at 1.86Ghz and 1 gig of ram with the 128 mb video card and things are running pretty smoothly now. So far I like the G4 as it graphics are better and with these old eyes I can see the aircraft and be in control more often than not. I would recommend anyone that has a G2 to check their computer to make sure it is above the minimum requirements before they buy this though. If you have a G3 or G3.5 check it out at a hobby shop or friend that has it first to see if it is worth the $200 to upgrade, unless you really NEED to fly off of the water. |
RE: G4?!?!?!?!?!?
The computer at my lhs was acting the same way, try turning it to photofield. At the hobby shop it was on 3d fields but once we changed fields it was great!

RE: G4?!?!?!?!?!?
I had Real Flight G2 and just got G4. It's night and day, G4 is so much better. G2 was very lame compared to G4. I must say though, I still think the way the airplanes fly are not realistic, in fact it seems to fly just like G2. Now I never flew G3 or G3.5, but I can just imagine G4 must be about the same. Over all, G4 graffix are awesome. They spent all their efforts into making everything crisp and life-like, the photo fields and airplanes look great. I'm just disapointed in the way the airplanes fly, super easy. My 15 year old daughter took off with the extra and went right into a hover followed by a torque roll. I couldn't believe it, she doesn't even fly my RC airplanes. She thought it was fun, and I thought it was a disapointment! It has tons of great features though along with great flight instrustion, so that part will be a big help in learning maneuvers and 3D. At least I can look forward to getting the stick movements down and enjoy awesome photo fields and such. I don't mean to put it down, but maybe with tweeking the airplanes and moving the CG back and stuff like that I can get these planes to fly more realistic.

RE: G4?!?!?!?!?!?
anybody else have one yet?

RE: G4?!?!?!?!?!?
The more I play with this new sim, the more I like it. I think one thing that you have to keep in mind is the fact that these airplanes are computer generated with the CG exact and the control throws exactally where they should be and everything else. So like I said before, once you move the CG back 1/8 to 1/4 inch you will have a whole different airplane. I know some of my real RC airplanes could use some aileron differential and such to make them roll more axial, like the ones on the simulator. So what I am trying to say is maybe with a real RC airplane that is set up correctly and the way it really should be, maybe they would fly more like the ones on the simulator!

RE: G4?!?!?!?!?!?
I never thought of it like that. I think I am going to stop by the LHS today and get some sim time. Once x mas gets here I hopefully will have a G4.

RE: G4?!?!?!?!?!?
It is an excellent point about the way models fly in the sims.
Most sim models have been setup with perfect everything. A guy at the field the other day was griping about how the Tiger2 in G3.5 didn't fly anything like his. Well, I got a Tiger2 and a Tiger60. So I said I'd let him fly my Tiger60 and I'd fly his Tiger2. We did it. His airplane sucked. He said mine flew almost as good as the one in G3.5. See a message there? I had already looked at his for warps and after the flight (yeah, after, not before.... we all get stupid sometime) checked the CG. He didn't want to move the CG until reminded that he'd just flown the design with one WAY farther back then we planned to move his. And guess what........ Danged if his didn't fly better. I expect to see it even better after the warp is ironed out. See a message there? |
RE: G4?!?!?!?!?!?
True, in fact proper set up is so important as well as correct CG that I have started putting digital servos in my planes and what a difference it makes. I am striving to get my airplanes to fly like the ones on the sim. I can tell I'm going in the right direction. It's a very time consuming and frustrating process though. I can't wait to start using the flight instructor portion of the G4, there is a lot of good information on this sim. Well worth a couple of hundred bucks!
