Heli Simulator

Hey everyone...Happy New Year! I hope it's warmer where you are than it is here in MN.

I've been looking around at the various simulators out there but can't figure out which one is for me.

This is where your expertise comes in.

I'm mainly looking for a simulator with the most realistic flight characteristics for helis...beginning and advanced (3D) flight. Training modes showing how to achieve a maneuver would be great for learning new tricks. I'm most interested in the 400-600 sized electric helis.

What I don't want is a simulator that is too easy to fly giving me a false sense of accomplishment. I'd actually like a simulator that is harder to fly than the actual model in RL. Does that make sense?

I'd also like use it to learn more 3D skills for planes as well, but this is not as important to me than the most realistic heli flight. Everything else is just a bonus to me...additional aircrafts / fields, custom aircrafts / fields...

If you ave any thoughts along these lines, please post up. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

i use AFPD and there are variables u can change. wind speed, transmiter reliability etc. i found it most helpful. more so for the planes but with the helis it takes all the stress outta flying lol.

It's a 4 year old HP laptop. Here's the specs on it. The only thing I've done is bumped the memory to its 1.256GB RAM.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g...reg_R1002_USEN

I really don't think I'll be able to do much with it as far as a high end simulator...but I'd love to be shown otherwise!

its better than alot of laptops, unlike mine it onlt has 8MB - 128MB of shared memory and not dedicated[&o]

Do you run a simulator? If so...which, and how well does it perform?

I got this bad boy for FREE
it's runing off of not a very good vedio card.
You might have a better chance with it.
I first ran it on only intel III 600hz, 256 memory.lol only a voodoo
no cliches of any kind. To hover and get the oriantations correct.
Different models all have different perimeters

trun off the FIX camera and trun up the wind and thermo a little

well..A new PC or a New Heli ?

It runs perfect on a laptop that's about 3-4 years old with only 512 memory, Intel4 processor XP pro

it sucks on my vista

I really like this one. You can get a USB cable on E Bay. There's a link to build your own.

Um, I'm not. but I am getting RF G3 which I can upgrade to G3.5 for free, I should get it either tomorrow or Mon.

I'll let you know how it work.

the bad thing is, I didn't know about the shared and not shared memory when I bought my laptop, at the time all I needed is somthing to run CS2 photoshop CS2 dreamweaver 8 IE and microsoft office and it dose that just fine with no problems. and I don't think I can get a new G card for mine either[:o]

Good thinking. A high end sim would be nice, but for the price of the sim and PC I could just learn basics on a free sim, but a fixed pitch heli to use for a month, and buy a descent collective pitch heli to graduate into. Of course I wouldn't have a sim that I could flight at night or water takeoffs.

JB COMP...let me know how the G3.5 works once you get a feel for it.

I'm not sure what you mean by Feel I don't actually fly planes or helis, I just like messing around with a sim, then if I did get into planes or helis I'd kinda know how to fly already:D

By feel I meant once you get an idea of how well it runs on your PC after you've spent some time exploring it.

It would also be nice to know how it compares to actual RC flight characteristics but I guess you can't help me much with that.

will do.

I got the G3 in today, and my laptop seems to be running it fine, in the plane editor it would slow down for a few sec, be it runs it fine when flying, now I just have to figure out how to fly and I'm good to go:D

I got my G3 update to G3.5 and it runs it fine, it will slow down a little for a sec or two then go back to normal

I think mine would run it, just the only thing it might not run the water parts.

the guy I bought my G3 from said, he wished he would have kepted G3 instead of getting G4, he said G3.5 was close to the same as G4.

Phoenix is pretty amazing, especially for heli's.
Download the demo and see if it will run on your machine: http://www.phoenix-sim.com/news.htm

Have you flown any other sims? How about helis...do they fly like real RC helis?

have a look at phoenix - has all the most popular 400/600 size helis,
all are developed and tested by experts - and the updates are free

RE: Heli Simulator

Thanks for all the input thus far.

Phoenix sounds like a good choice. Although I sure they all are depending on what you're looking for in a sim.

I'll download the Phoenix demo and check for compatibility with my PC.

I have tested all the 5 major R/C flight simulators. G4 for airplanes, Phoenix or Reflex for helis, it is that easy. My pick goes for Phoenix, let me know if you have any specific questions.

Nice, the best part of Phoenix is that they are constantly doing updates. First the water did not move, now you have ripples and reflection. Before there was no damage now there is. And tons of nice sceneries and models for you to download for free. No expansion packs needed ever.

Yeah that is cool a T-rex 500 should help my skills progress as I fly the real thing!

RE: Heli Simulator

I just dropped my budget on a 450XL. I plan on buying a sim after I get my money back from Uncle Sam. Until then, I'm awaiting a cable to connect my Tx for some Helisim and a maybe a little FMS.

Has anyone used [link=http://www.marksfiles.net/HeliSimRC/index.htm]HeliSimRC[/link]? If so, how does its flight characteristics measure up? I realize it's a free program and won't have any luxuries like night flying, pyramids or sound, but its gotta be better than nothing.
