Tru-flite heli sim.
 

For those who own this sim., hwo would you rate the quality of the program, such as the reality of the heli controls, graphics, install, and performance?

It looks like a great sim., but one never knows for sure without having tried it.

I think if you search around you will see a previous thread on this sim.
I bought mine at Toledo at the Minature booth I was told it had better physics than any other helo program. I had to buy a new computer to run it but I was planning to buy a new puter so no big deal there. The copyright protection is in the cable which took me almost 6 months to get fixed after many frustruating hours trouble shooting the problem.
They claim I am the only person who has had this problem.
Minature really didn't provibe any product support, had to deal with the guys in England.
Once up and running It is quite good. Very realistic. I practiced my nose in hover for a few hours and went out and managed to do it. So the program paid for itself right away.
I have a little experience with other sims but for helos it is the best I have seen.

Thanks for the response, what type of problem was it with the copyright? Did the program crash, not run?

What was the final answer, a setting or something?

The problem I had was a hardware problem, thats why it took so long to get help with the troble shhot since every one was trying the easier and more likely software problem. The end of the cable that attaches to the back of your computer has a dual pin connector I think that is what it is called one end I think was 9 pin and the flip side was 22 pin or something like that. Hey i'm an airplane geek not a computer geek!
Any way, they said the copywrite protection was in the little connector end which was bad.
The software has worked flawlessly. Install was good as well. From what I have seen on the net This program is head and shoulders better than any other helo program that I have seen.
The cable was a little short but a quick trip to Radio Shack for an additional length has solved any problems I had.

I am using the JR PCM 10 the older version. That I bought used I'm sure it is at least 10 years old. But it has more capability than I need.

I have been using truflite for almost two years. Works good. I have a version without raptor and never bothered to get realistic settings for a raptor. Instead I use a futura 60 in the sim.
Physics are quite good, of course the futura 60 has much more power but I moderated the simulated 'engine' to have less HP. Most disturbing difference is in wind sensitivity, my real raptor a better gyro so its tail wags less in the wind, but instead it starts rolling a little which the simulated futura does not. Inverted the futura is more stable than the raptor. Also wind gusts have quite particular behaviour in the Netherlands, I could not reproduce it with the sim settings. In reality you also hear the wind coming.
Anyway, good value, I consider the simulator important for training reflexes, not for being 100% realistic.

One more thing. I run this on a laptop with ATI graphics card. Install and run without any problems, with FF6s and FF8s transmitter. :)
