Reflex questions
Okay, so after all the chat about the Reflex sim, I decided to give the demo a try. Not overly impressed by it mostly because you can't control anything with it (to experience flight physics, etc.), but the demo flight recordings did impress me, specially the heli autos.
Now for some ?????? 1) What is the cost, in US$ 2) Will it work with the Futaba T9CHP? 3) If I buy now, what are my upgrade options on future releases? 4) Can I create my own models? How? --Hammer |

why do people insist on useing their transmitter?? why place undo time on it?? just askin

Reflex questions
I currently have RF G2 with a buddy cable for my 9C and it makes a world of a difference from the Interlink.
Now I'm looking for a sim with more realistic flight physics ... RF G2 is great, but it just feels too easy once you get used to it's "quirks". Using your own radio lets you make changes and see their effect immediately without having to shell out big $$$$$ after a crash. I am now at a point where my sim settings and the ones I use on my Hawk Sport are nearly identical. I could never duplicate that with a joystick, keyboard or Interlink! It's also good practice for getting used to button locations, etc. That last thing you want in the field is to switch the wrong button only because that's where you learned to use it on a flight sim. To get the most benefit out of any sim you just have to use your own radio. --Hammer |
Reflex questions
1.) Please check with Hobbico.
2.) Yepp. It doesn't come with the right plug yet but you can easily get an adapter from the aftermarket or by your own. 3.) Upgrades within a version 4.x-4.xx usually are free. We already published abt. 10 upgrades in V4. 4.) In July we shall have the german Reflex model construction software translated. This will let you do your own models from pictures only which you can do in 10 minutes from your own model using a normal digital camera. @graupnerfan: Would you really want to control your 1000$ Heli with your leyboard, a joystick or the gamecommander? We are simulator people, not replacement people or "Nearly as good as"-people. Cheers - wolfgang |

i was jsut wondering.. i just dont like the thought of putting undo time on my 500 dollar equipment.. but i guess thats just me.. i did fine with the interlink to 9c ...

Reflex questions
Checked Hobbico and no mention of Reflex anywhere!?!?
Other questions? 1) How do I adjust servo speed/type? 2) Why does the heli size change when the main rotor length is changed? 3) Where can you adjust engine parameters; mixture, etc. I see it has great potential, but it also has a lot of catching-up to do with G2, et. al. What would compel me to go out and buy this sim? Yeah, the ground physics are pretty neat, although not as accurate as I expected. I've also checked RC Plane Master and Pre-flight and they both seem too "immature" when compared to G2. They actually compare more to FMS! --Hammer |
Reflex questions
The TH listing does not reflect the actual stock situation. Please call and ask for art. no HCAZ4000 - and they find it. They will still need some time to make the shop owner information etc.
1. In the current version we allow the servo speed setting for the tailrotor only. This will change soon due to some complex strategy changes. 2. Because we are simulation in a "real-world" model. Things don't just have ANY dimension - all the dimensions in the Reflex are relative to each other. The runway has a certain width as has the helicopter. If you change the helicopter rotordiameter, it has to "grow" bigger in order let the collision detection work. 3. I don't thing the mixture is someting that belongs to the sim as the motor either works, works unreliable or has a bad performance. This is what you can adjust besides other parameters. Mixture will be very confusing work as the one fuel mixture by company "A" will have another performance than the same mixture by company "B". Age, temperature, purity of components, type of oil, heighth of flying field, humidity ... that's going too far. I wonder how you come to your understanding of "not as accurate ..." regarding the ground handling. There is no product to compare with and there is a very limited chance to see this using the demos only. Until you really see and fly in our ground handling module you should not publish these reservations. There are real complex mathematics behinds this and if you look at the parameters effecting the landing grear you get an idea how complex it really is. Don't forget the teaching effect. In most other sims you can land just anywhere. THAT is untrue in reality and that is the wrong message. You MAY get the aicraft into the air and you MAY fly a loop real soon - but what is the teaching message if you always loose you aircraft if you are unable to get the aircraft back to a place that physically allows landing? Back in the real world you start, you fly your loop and then? "I can land anywhere in the sim" will make you loose your real aircraft. Cheers - wolfgang |
Reflex questions
Checked Hobbico again for the model you mention and nothing on their website. Is it listed under some other name?
Anyway, I read in another thread something about it being about $200 US, is that correct? That's as much as I paid for G2, but in my case I'd have to shell out additional mula for the 9CH interface. I don't think your logic on heli size (follows blade length, etc.) is a good one. The whole point is to be able to change blade lenghts and determine what will happen to handling and such. Scaling the "model" is ridiculous! :stupid: You claim "real world" sim, and then state that simulating engines is "going too far". I don't even see provisions for fuel tank size or fuel comsumption. You want to call yourself a "real world" sim provider, you MUST go as far as you can with it!!!!!!!! :o As for the ground physics, I was comparing it to "real world" (Florida) grass. Your stuff looks more like astro turf in different densities. Florida "grass", mostly St. Augustine, is very coarse and random, nothing like your demo depicts. I guess I'll just have to continue using G2 for now until something better or an upgrade comes out. :( --Hammer |

Please - stay with G2! Thanks for saving my time.

Well that's says it all I guess!!!! :p
If you're really interested in making this hobby better and improving your product, instead of becoming insulted when someone provides criticism you should try to listen. Maybe we, potential buyers, can bring something useful and even help you develop the right product. Obviously you know everything and don't need anyone else's input! :stupid: Good luck with Reflex. --Hammer |

Criticism? You are judging a math relation of our world model which is on the market at a time the G2 wasn't even a thought in any developers brain? You are judging on a demo basis, not on the full version?, You are judging without even reading the manual (fuel consumption)? You want to start a discussion about the grass colour? You are not even reading my advice on Hobbico regarding telephone calls instead of internet information?
Sorry Sir, but you don't WANT to start a dialog, you WANT to blow the G2 trumpet. As I said, I would prefer a substantial dialog. You are not ready for that. I don't have a problem with a G2 customer preferring the G2. You seem to have a problem with a sim maker not making a G2. There are so many different people out there preferring this or that - and luckily, we all have the freedom to choose what we like - also the discussion we like. I don't see any reason to defend my prodcut against unsubstantial "criticism". You made your G2-choice and nobody forces you to change to the Reflex or is there anybody with a 45 colt in your back? If you are interested in the Reflex - fine. Place your questions and we discuss questions. Some of your "judgements" are just the result of poor knowledge and half understanding. Do you really thing I get my market position here in europe with such a bad product? Do you really thing such a "bad" product could be sold in Europe and Japan since more than 11 years to all these customers? Do you really thing, all the customers are so stupid and they are only waiting for your "professional" oppinion basing on guesses, a demo and poor understanding. As I said, please stay with the G2. |

I have my european website at www.reflex-sim.de - that's hardcore product information, downloads etc. As Hobbico is selling it in the US, they will put specific sales information onto THEIR website such as order no., price, availability. As Hobbico is quite a large company and they don't handle only my product, that may take some time.
Again: If you want to get VERY detailed information in english, german, swedish or japanese - please see www.reflex-sim.de or www.reflex-sim.com. If you want to know the price in the US, sales information etc, you either wait until Hobbico updates their sales information. If it is urgent and can't wait you may have to call-in, but only for sales specific information. That's the whole story. |

Tower Hobbies does have them....all you have to do is call and ask...they can tell you about the simulator....

Reflex questions
Hi Flygirl1,
I already noticed your professional answers for other problems and your fine feeling for the right "verbal touch" at the right moment. Good work and I really appreciate having you in the support team. Reflex is fairly easy. It installs without major problems. 4.02 which is on the CD is rather tolerant regarding video card drivers, whereas 4.03 (internet download) produces an error message if the video card driver is not supporting the essential DirectX 8.1 features. Most is explained on the homepage before download but sometimes the DirectX diagnostics DXDIAG is just scratching the surface of the problem. A fresh video card driver usually solves the problem. Once the software detects the interface (watch the left bottom remark shortly after the start), most problems (99,5%) are related to the transmitter connection. Futaba 6-pin is with it already as well as Sanwa/Airtronics - that usually works without problem and if there is a problem, in most cases it is a worn-out ground contact in the radio. (Personally, I feel that the radio manufactures all over the world are having a meeting once a month and invent a new DSC plug just to keep us simulator people busy ...). You will face a lot of call from the JR community. The 3.5 mm plug works fine with MOST JR's but there are 2 radios having another pin assignment. Soldering brown to ground solves that problem but most people are afraid of soldering something because they think they loose warranty. Here in Europe and in Japan, I exchange ANY interface at no charge, no matter what the problem is (yor fault, my fault). I don't even care about the date of purchase. On www.reflex-sim.com - the support section - I am showing the major radio connections and ways to change them is need arises. If customer face slow simulation, they usually have video cards with small memory (16 MB or less). Reducing the colour depth to 16 bits helps. Also, there is a funny feature relating the FPS to the vertical frequency of the monitor (v-Sync). Playing with that feature (on/off) and with the antialiasing of the video card brings interesting results. In the past 5 years we were selling a lot here in europe and in Japan. We did not had to return 1 single simulator due to incompatability or problems related to hardware and drivers - every problem can be solved (... till now). I hope will have as many happy customers in the US as we have them in our traditional markets. Thanks and cheers - wolfgang |

Hi Wolfgang,
Thank you so much for your reply. I have been checking out your webpage to learn as much as I can and to be familiar with where everything is. I hope you do well! flygirl1 |
Reflex questions
I just bought Reflex from TH, and Wolfgang told me how to use the 5 dollar Futaba 9C DSC cord with it. It was very easy, took less than 5 minutes of soldering. I have G2 with the USB interlink, and I LOVE the realism of flight with Reflex. I will not be selling G2, because I think it can't hurt to fly both sims, saves me $$ in the longrun. I have also owned CSM 10, which also flew much more realistically than G2. I really like using my TX with sim's because it helps you learn and understand the complex settings related to flying Heli's, and allows you to advance up the learning curve without risking the real thing. I have had a hell of a hard time using my 9CHP with G2, and finally gave up. Reflex could not be easier to setup with your own TX.
I MUCH prefer the flight characteristics of Reflex to the eye candy of G2. Thank again Wolfgang for producing a great product, and your VERY fast answers to any questions by email. William |
Reflex questions
Hey Baja170,
How much did Reflex cost you? Glad you're satisfied with your expenditure, hope you enjoy and benefit from it to it's fullest cost. I have been using the 9CHP and the G2 Interlink without any problems. It took a bit of tweaking to get just right (especially the wizard stuff), but now I've got it just right. In fact, all my settings are configured to match those of my real heli with minor changes for the gyro. Have fun! --Hammer |
