I'm not sure if the enhanced parallel port is needed by the FMS system, but you could try to set the parallel port to either EPP or ECP (Enhanced Parallel Port/Enhanced Capability Port) which allows faster data rates.

You can access this by getting into the BIOS at start up. Usually you have to press a function key which varies from machine to machine, but is usually a message on the screen before Windows starts, and then change the port mode from there.

It won't do any harm if you change it, so try it. It might work!

What operating system ? The parallel port i/f does not work with Win 2000/XP only with the older systems like Win98/ME.

Banksy,

Have you made yourself a cable? The site doesn't make it very clear which pins on the TX are connected to the black and white wires in the diagram? Can you clear it up a bit for me?

Cheers,

Oily.

Yup, the cable is easy.

You just take pin 2 from the 6-way futaba DIN (round) plug to the +ve (pointy bit) of the audio jack (3.5mm I think?). the screen/earth goes from the outside of the audio jack to the screen of the din plug.

looking from behind the din plug, pin 2 is the second pin clockwise from the bottom.

see http://www.welwyn.demon.co.uk/buddy.htm for pin outs.

He suggests using a 10K pot to limot the voltage from the Tx, but my set up (futaba skysport6A, soundblaster PCI 64 and w2K works fine without it).

HTH.

see http://www.welwyn.demon.co.uk/buddy.htm for pin outs.
