Can anyone tell me if the virtual instructor in RF G2 teaches aerobatic manuevers as well as 3D manuevers? Also, any comments or opinions about the products overall realism and quality are appreciated. Thanks.

My lite version only has basic flight, no aerobatics. The graphics are pretty awesome IMO and it is the next best thing to sitting at the field flying.

I have the full version, and RF G2 has NO 3d maneuvers for the virtual instructor. It does have some basic aerobatic to advanced manuvers, as well as general flight lessons. However, I was a bit disappointed in the available ones as they are nothing more than pre-recorded flights to watch how they are done. It does not monitor how you do them nor offer any feedback on your performance. But, nonetheless RF has made me a MUCH better pilot and I have advanced much faster than I would have otherwise, not to mention I am sure I have saved mucho $ from learning to hover in the sim as opposed to on a real bird.

P.S. The lessons for fixed wing didn't help me much, but the ones for helis (me being a beginner with helis) helped me out quite a bit.

I agree...after an hour or so I could keep the heli in hover for a full tank.

Phillip, I dont think there is a program on the market that will offer advice on your flying.
As far as the 3d, you can go to the realflight and download replays and watch people do stuff and see their radio while they do it.

Ok, even though it won't teach you 3D manuevers, can you still perform them on the game if you knew how?

It'll do anything you can do in real life. Probably a little easier than RL because RL if ya crash it it'll cost ya. With G2 ya hit the space bar and try again...

With the stock 3D version airplanes I have had trouble pulling off some 3D maneuvers, but, there are a slew of downloadable airplanes that 3D very well. It might, however, be my skill and not the planes.

I purchased RFG2 long before I purchased my first R/C "toy". :) I knew I wanted to get into the hobby, my first thought was to fly planes since everyone said helis were so hard to fly. I'm glad I didn't listen! :D

At first the sim seemed impossible, couldn't make any of the helis stay in a hover. :( In almost no time, however, I was hovering tail-in, then nose-in, started forward flight ... been like heaven since then. :D I got to a point where moving the heli was mostly instinctive, not much thought given about what to do from moment to moment. That's when I decided to go after the real thing!

My first (real) flight was SCARY: pucker-factor x 1,000,000. The engine noise, smoke, wind, wife & kids spectating. :eek: I then tried to remember what I had learned from G2 and suddenly everything "felt" better. I went through two "close calls" that I managed to recover from (thank God), and (NOW) I know that had it not been for the sim, I would have lost it! :cool:

RFG2 is well worth the $200 price tag ... the flight sim is accurate enough to learn flying well. It includes it's own radio, so you don't have to go shell out another $300-500 dollars on a radio just to use the sim (BIG PLUS) and it has a lot of parameters that you can tweak to change the aircraft and it's environent. Another huge feature is MULTIPLAYER! A lot of folks consider this a "toy" feature, but I can tell you it is a great way to learn from other folks. I learned a couple of neat tricks from a friend that lives in another state using multiplayer and the radio gadget (which shows stick movement from yourself or other pilots). I had been trying to learn this one trick, but all the "textual" descriptions on this and other forums on how to perform it didn't help me learn it. My friend used the sim and showed me the exact stick movements to make it happen!! I have not seen this feature on any other sim on the market.

There are other sims that claim to have better flying physics, better support, more models, etc., etc., but most require that you own your own radio, which should be considered in the final cost of the sim. You will probably learn to fly with any sim that at a minimum lets you interface with a radio (or has similar controls, just not keyboard based). Overall, though, I think RFG2 is the best one for the price/feature. It's not perfect, but neither are the rest in the lot. If you end up getting RFG2, you will NOT be disappointed!

I bought real flight before I fly. The first time I fly, I landed my airplane 18 times on the runway perfectly. So Real flight is a big plus. The money you spent on the program save a lot of crash($$$). Now I have an helicopter I tried it on G2 and In two day I was capable to do very good hover. After one months I was capable to do forward flights and pirouette. Thats a big plus! Can't leave my computer without it!

You said it Philip! I'm really excited now to try it. I have always heard really good things about it and I really want to get my hands on it. I already now how to fly, but I think it will be a big plus in keeping my skills in touch while I'm not flying, and I can finally try some 3D manuevers without getting stuck with "nose-in" landing costs!

Is the hardest part! Having to remember the controls are backwards when the plane is coming twards you. The sim is well worth the $$$$. Lord only knows how manny 'LANDINGS' it has saved! And epoxy...and tape....and cussing....and.......You understand!!!!!

John, I have owned a few simulators over the past three years while slowly learning to fly RC helicopters. Real Flight G2 is the ultimate. The real life rc choppers it depicts fly just like they are in the program. Classic example is the Schweizer 300. I got to fly a Schweizer scale, and it was PRECISELY as it was in G2. Highly recommended. As one of the other guys has said: "it will make you a better pilot".

I purchased a rc plane in the begginning of last winter and since I live in Canada I did not get to try it out ( it snows a lot here).I purchased G2 Real Flight because of all the positive things I heard and also because I would be able to practise during the long winter months on the simulaltor. Now this spring I enrolled in a club and here we are my first lesson with a instructor. I arrived at the field at 7.00 A.M, I was so eager I was the first one there After a while I got bored so I started the engine on my trainer and decided to practise taxiing on the runway until the instructor would arrive.
After going up and down the runway a few times, my confidence must have been escalating because I found myself going faster and faster each pass I decided to make a last pass on the runway and I guess I went a little to fast this time beause the plane past right by me and jumped twenty feet into the air.
Natural instinct would be to cut the throttle and get the plane back down, but all the practicing I did on simulator told me to just
push full throttle and get altitude and we will worry about getting it down later when we catch our breath.
Luckily the plane did not need hardly any trimming 2 clicks of down elevator. I went around the field like a racetrack and brought back the plane and did a perfect three point landing.
I had just soloed, thanks to G2 there is now way I could have done what I just did otherwise.

Could you tell me what plane I should use - I have no add-on - and what set-up (control surfaces degrees, engine, and so on) to learn hovering with Real Flight G2?
I can't torque roll no standard planes.
