flight simulators
I have "flight sim. x" and enjoy it occasionally using the CH fighterstick joystick. Its just entertainment guys.
Long time ago had the Dave Brown sim. but found it boring. Would appreciate opinions on "real flight G5" Have never been impressed by them although at the Wram show that large screen did make a difference. Flying season finished here in Pa. It is nice however to have something to build and something else to do while epoxys set. Thanks. "hate to repair ? apply full throttle prior to impact" |
RE: flight simulators
I really liked G4 but not G4.5 and G5 is new but I was so put off by G4.5 that I am not even going to try G5.
I liked Aerofly Pro Deluxe but they just came out with a new version which I haven't even seen yet. I hated FS-One. I love FMS. Free and planes can be created and edited with free programs too. Lousy graphics but very nice to have a sim anywhere I want, even on an "antique" PC. Many Heli people swear by clearview but I only tried the demo. I also have an older version of Pre-Flight which I have mixed feelings about compared to newer sims, but I did get it for free so I am not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. Keep in mind that I only have slow flyers and small helis so I have no opinion on 3D or fast flying in sims. I mainly use them to keep fingers and orientation up to par. |
RE: flight simulators
G5 is the definitely the best IMO. Inifinite customization options for every plane, so you can make any plane fly how would you like, great graphics, fun mulitplayer, etc. Runs great on many machines, as long as the machine is not ancient. Download the demo to G4, and see how well it runs. Also, stop by and visit the Knife Edge support forums, tons of great info there.
Here is the link to the G4 demo. It is simply to see how well it runs. You can certainly try to fly with the keyboard, but that is not really the purpose of the demo. http://www.realflight.com/free-g4-demo.html If it runs great, get G5! You will not be disappointed. |
RE: flight simulators
While the G4 demo will give you an idea of G5. It is no guarantee that G5 will run on your machine, or how well. Post your computer's specs on the KE forums and ask if it will run G5 and how well.

RE: flight simulators
So glad I downloaded the demo. In less than 3 minutes I realized its not for me. Without the threat of crashing etc its "dullsville" This is only my opinion. My buddy who went into turbine powered models used one to prepare for the first flights and insisted it helped him and I agreed. Its like many things, if you like it , do it ! Its not so much the bucks but how many toys do we want sitting on the shelf collecting dust ?
Funny, I can take a 45 minute flight in a twin engine prop job through bad weather with rain, lightening using F.S.X. and actually feel responsible for completing the flight. Thanks again for input this R.C.U. is the best thing that ever happened to this hobby (besides ca glue) |
