Simulator wanted, basic.
 

I'm looking for a Flight Simulator program. I don't need all the "bells n whistles." I wouldn't know what to do with them.

I'm just looking for the entry level basics.

Has to be a "no risk" program or setup. I have Windows XP.

Suggestions? Someone who upgraded may have something to sell or trade?

Start with FMS. It is free. All you need is a USB cable for your transmitter (under $10 on ebay).

OK, do I use my TX? Attach the TX to the USB cabel?

Is the download safe?

I'd rather buy something on a disc, wouldn't that be better?

Something on disk is going to cost you around $200 for anything decent (RF. AFPD5 etc.) and they aren't "risk free" as in once you buy it you are stuck with it if you don't like it or it doesn't work on your computer. Quite an expensive risk IMHO.
To get started all you need is a used TX with a trainer port, a USB cable for it (under $10 ebay) and download FMS (free).

What is FMS and where do I get it. The USB cable goes from the TX to the USB port? What about the fitting on the cable? How does a USB port have a cable that has the TX fitting on the other end?

The download at the top of the list works fine on my XP system. Version 2 Alpha 8.5

If your XP machine does not have a serial COMx port, you will get an error loading FMS.

RealFlight Basic may fill your needs nicely. It comes with a nice controller and all of the graphics features and flight physics

Keep in mind that real flight basic has very limited functionality and expandability compared to almost any other sim.

No Additional Aircraft and "Adjustable Parameters - Wind only" that is even less than FMS!

There are quite a few sims out there that people swear by; Aerofly, FS-One, Phoenix, Reflex, Clearview and even FMS have a strong following.
One could easily argue that FMS is the most popular RC flight sim in the world albeit not the best (but you can't beat free).
