Phoenix Flight Sim - USB Adapter

I just moved last week and I lost my USB adapter that goes between the computer and the transmitter. Does anyone know where I can get the entire USB cable/adapter for Phoenix Flight Simulator from? I looked on horizon and saw some but I wasn't sure if any of those were the correct one...</p>

RE: Phoenix Flight Sim - USB Adapter

I am new to the RC world and purchased the Pheonix Flight Sim package from Horizon. Unfortunately, my 10 month old cat decided the USB cable was a chew toy. When I contacted Horizon, I too was informed that they do not sell the USB cable separately - I would have to buy a whole new package. As a consumer, I find this outrageous and anti-consumer friendly. The arrogance of the technical support person was amazing! He basically said that "Sounds like you have an expensive cat"

Too say the least, I will not be buying any products made or distributed by Horizon and would encourage anyone reading this to do the same.

that may be a fairly easy fix, at least for me anyway. Icould prolly repair the wires. its not too hard.

RE: Phoenix Flight Sim - USB Adapter

Phoenix knows that somebody could buy an interface separately, copy the original disk and sell a complete Sim package on ebay for a fraction of the cost. That's the world we live in. The innocent people suffer because of the guilty.

RE: Phoenix Flight Sim - USB Adapter

OR as with most other sims, Phoenix could require that the customer return the damaged dongle to be replaced at a nominal fee... I agree with previous posts, this is lousy customer service.

RE: Phoenix Flight Sim - USB Adapter

Go directly to the Phoenix site. Although I've never needed to do it, I know that they replace the dongle if you send them the damaged one.

edit: Here's the link for that: http://www.ekmpowershop4.com/ekmps/s...epair-10-p.asp ... That's sort of the 2nd part of the process. I don't know what the procedure is or what the address is for sending in the damaged cable to begin with, but anyway you can see from that that they do replace/repair them.

As for losing the dongle, that's the same with any major sim. The copy protection is in the dongle. They should probably put a note around the dongle cable with warning of this for people that don't know this.

RE: Phoenix Flight Sim - USB Adapter

Good for you that you actually have the cable.  You can send it in and they will send you a new one for a small cost. I saw it a few days. Sadly, I still haven't been able to find mine....  Piracy is something all software companies must deal with but I could have provided any information they wanted from my original order but they wouldn't accept it... I won't be purchasing from them again.  I had way better support from RealFlight G3.

dbcisco 01-14-2010 01:11 PM

RE: Phoenix Flight Sim - USB Adapter

Common sense may agree that piracy costs sales but in reality there has been absolutely no proof of that ever being the case. Rather, it seems that people who pirate software rarely buy and those who buy rarely pirate.
Bottom line is that honest people tend to stay honest and nothing can stop a thief.
Every sinlge RC sim there is has been cracked within a year of its release (often much sooner) so the protection is uselss anyway.

I guess im going to go by and grab RealFlight Basic until AF5 releases here in the U.S.  I don't understand the people who crack these games. They can only play them with a joystick or their keyboard.  Makes no since to me but hey... whatever floats their boat.

RE: Phoenix Flight Sim - USB Adapter

The cracks allow the use of any TX. Pretty clever programming and not completely illegal unless used to run a sim you didn't pay for. Great and legal for those who bought the sim but destroyed their dongle/controller. I wish at least one of the sim companies would hire the hackers to fix the bugs in their sim. :(

RE: Phoenix Flight Sim - USB Adapter

Well I payed for mine so I'm not illegal. How would I go playing my Phenix Sim again with one of these? PM me if you know.

BINGO, found my cable yesterday morning in a random bag I had not unpacked yet. Got back to playing yesterday. I forgot how addicting this game can be...

RE: Phoenix Flight Sim - USB Adapter

Good for you Alan, but the fact of the matter is that if you lose your cable is like losing the whole package. I think that sucks. Besides, I believe these "games" are extremely overpriced. Except for the actual hardware (which is mostly cheaply built stuff), if you compare the software to other more sophisticated and complex games and non rc simulators, they are way overpriced. You compare this stuff to games like the Call of Duty series, which are produced like a major film release and even use real actors like Kiefer Sutherland and yet sell for less than half of you would pay for your average decent rc simulator. You can argue that they are dealing with a smaller market, but still, in my opinion their profits are higher and they should provide with better support to their customers. Just my 2 cents.

RE: Phoenix Flight Sim - USB Adapter

Very true.  I can't say much about the cost. It is definately overpriced but I'm not going to preach about that because I still bought it.  I guess they have the understanding that if someone really wants it they are going to buy regardless of price.  I do feel they should cost more than the average $39.99 PC game but I think $199.99 is just to much. There is a medium and hopefully one day they will find it but if not I guess they will keep people like me buying different products because we can't find a cable or dongle.

Recently bought a Phoenix FS and just picked this thread up out of interest. I had no idea the Tx lead was so important, this should be made clear in the documentation. Will treat it with new respect.
Thanks for bringing this to light.

Gerry

RE: Phoenix Flight Sim - USB Adapter

Seems to me they should offer a swap service for damaged cables for a fee. If they don't that's not very customer friendly. However like others have said, repairing a damaged cable should not be too difficult for many people in this hobby trusting something didn't completely destroy the box portion.

RE: Phoenix Flight Sim - USB Adapter

With today's technolgy it would be easy just to encrypt the DVD and lock it from copying or shorten the hardware to just the box and tx connector and supply a generic USB cable which if damaged can be simply replaced.
I was mad at Realflight, I bought the G2 when it came out and thought I could upgrade to G3. $199.99 will upgrade my system.. NOT!

neither disc encryption nor dongles keep people from copying, you can buy a dongle for less than ten dollars on ebay including cable and all adapters, cheaper than messing with the alternatives...

RE: Phoenix Flight Sim - USB Adapter

Has anyone tried the equipment being sold on eBay by a Chinese company? It's a 12-in-1 device that will connect your TX and your computer. Dang me for buying the software without the adapter and not realizing that the adapter is the real cost.

I found on HobbyKing they carry the cables for Realflight and Phoenix. I have never tried them yet.
