Real Flight G2 & Personal Firewalls

Got cable modem last week and love it.....never doing back to dial up. Weird thing is, two different personal firewall softwares I've tried screw up G2 big time.... one firewall changed all the channels on my radio settings and one halted G2 startup with an error about an audio directX file missing on drive L: ???. Even after removing the firewall software, G2 is bungled.
Dah What,.... good thing for Symantec Ghost, but after two drive image rebuilds this week I'm getting horny for some real flying and it's raining in Arizona today. What is a guy supposed to do for some hacker protection and have G2 working? Someone out there must have the secret formula.....

An option is to purchase a hardware gateway/router/firewall that goes between your cable modem/dsl and your pc. this works great and you can manage what ports are directed to your pc through the router.

Linksys, Netgear, D-Link (in no particular order) make good equipment for your problem.

Sounds good to me!

Thanks sailor, that sounds like a good approch. It's hard these days to get all softwares jiving together on one computer. I'll look up the routers.

I had the same problem as you usually cannot do multiplay through the cable modems! I bought a hardware firewall and you need to set up the "trigger" ports for multiplay and it should work...you can usually get a router for 100 bucks give or take and then you can network all your home computers off of it and get some firewalling security built into it.

What are the ports that need to be open for G2?

TIA!

Cheers!

Here goes:

Setup a "Virtual Server" on port 6073 for you local IP address. This sets up your router to send to your pc any requests for G2. You also need to setup a special applications port with the trigger being 6073 and the incoming ports to be 2300-2400. That should do it...

HELP!

I've tried all of this but still can't get in. Does it want the IP address that I use to log into my router (netgear fr114p)?

Does it want my WAN IP?

Does it want my WAN GATEWAY?

My DNS?

HELP, PLEASE!

Glenn.

Still can't get in to what? Please be more specific as I can only help you knowing details.

Oh . . . sorry. I thought the point of this thread was to do multiplayer online.

I can't get into any Realflight G2 multiplayer servers.

Thanks,

Glenn.

OK,

What operating system are you running?
Are you running some sort of firewall software on your PC, i.e. ZoneAlarm or Microsoft's Internet Connection Firewall (comes with XP)?
Are you using a hardware gateway/router? What brand is it?

What exactly are you doing when you can't get in?

I'm running XP and a Netgear FR114P. No software firewall.

If you've read this thread from the beginning, I've followed along with the inbound and outbound port settings with no luck.

I'm certain the problem is with my Netgear and the firewall settings. I've plugged in the numbers talked about above but still can't see any servers like I did two days ago when I was using dial-up.

Thanks,

Glenn.

can you enable DMZ? This puts you outside the firewall.
so far this is the only way i can play online.

Glen,

It is possible that you need to enable the ports in your TCP/IP settings for Internet Connection Firewall. Can you check this?
