Fuel without nitro

The original intent of my conversion to ignition, (this is a glow engine, I just added spark) was the airplane was planned to be a scale entry for FAI (F4H) competition. I wanted the airplane to be flexible in regards to the fuel it could utilize. My thoughts were to make it FAI fuel friendly. I have since realized glow fuel is not so scarce abroad as I thought. But the benefits of having it spark justify leaving it alone. This engine is already too much power for the plane, so no issue there. Not really trying to rationalize, or justify why I configured it the way it is. I was just trying to find a good source for methanol. Another reason why is I have over 200 glow engines in my collection, and plan to mix nitro fuel for them. So the methanol is something I need in the future as well.

Methanol should be $3-4.00/gal. If you’re paying more than $5/gal in a 5gal quantity, you’re paying for the bucket too. I used to do that until I found a local methanol supplier. Last time I got methanol, it was $2.79/gal.
gasoline stinks, is far more flammable, and is just horrendous to work with. I wish I didn’t need to run my daily on the stuff. I sure as hell won’t run my model engines on it. Yuck.

If you have a device capable of searching the Internet and/or making phone calls, you can do some searching and subsequently calling of entities that may carry it. Some initial search terms could net some results such as: race fuel, race gas, drag racing fuel, drag racing supply, methanol, methyl alcohol fuel, etc. I don’t live where you live, so my sources would do you no good. If you must know though, I got my fuel from Wilson Oil Co. in Red Wing, Minnesota.

No idea if you owe me a thanks...
I was just trying to defuse a potential argument about things like "attitude" and "tone"...
That goes the other way around as well... Expectations will never be met if you deem them realistically unattainable from the get go (meaning you won't even try...).
That is something to consider.

I will add this for those looking for small quantities of methanol. If one seeks out race car guys that run methanol (drag and circle track sprint cars) they buy their fuel by the drum. Usually more than they need for a given race. Often they are very happy to sell you some of their fuel they don’t need for cost as they prefer to have fresh fuel for races. Especially at the end of their race season. Some will actually just give it away to empty the drum for the winter as to not have to store flammables in their shop.-Just my experience from my Kart racing days. Methanol and Klotz, love that smell.
