Crystalline substance in fuel tank
One of the guys in my club has had an issue with a crystalline substance build up in his fuel tank. It is white or off white in color and quite hard. I teased him about his wife putting sugar in his fuel jug:D The substance has caused him some engine problems also.
Has anybody experienced this or know what it might be? Sorry I'm not 100% sure what fuel he was using but I think he used a couple of different brands. Ken |
It may just be flaking castor oil? It sometimes does that. Maybe a filter near the motor may help, as well as rinsing out the tank. Otherwise maybe just corrosion of the brass tank fittings or just dirt. No one else seems to be chiming in, but that is my guessing.

I've only ever seen castor settle out if put in the freezer at -10F. Even then it was white cloudy globules of oil. Not of crystalline nature. My guess would be contaminated fuel.

Been working a lot so I apologize for not getting back sooner. The substance in the tank was an off white or white in color. Hence the teasing about his wife and sugar;) It also was in chunks that were quite "hard". You could break it up but it was not soft and squishy.

It's long gone in the garbage. It looked like sugar that got damp and hardened.
