Since you're looking for small qty, go to local home improvement (Home Depot, Lowes, Ace, etc.) and check in the paint dept. They sell Methanol by the gal. Around $7 per gal in metal container.

If you have a local fuel distributor, they sell it at the pump for about $2 per gal.

We've been succesfully blending our own fuels using methyl hydrate and or methyl alcohol mixed with 5% castor. I live north of the 53rd parallel and depending on the temperature and humidity I sometimes add just a pinch of 15% fuel just to smooth er out. Works very well in my OS46 FX. 40Rossi and 30cc OPS.
I'm not a chemist and I'm not certain what the chemical make up is of the methanol/ methyl hydrate/ methyl alcohol but I do know it works and its cheap. Methyl hydrate is available at any auto parts store and is used to dry out the air lines in semi-trucks.:)

murphyj, Isn't a 5% oil content too little. I thought 2-cycle fuel is supposed to have around 20% oil mixed with the fuel. Where do you get your methyl hydrate? How much do you pay? Besides a little bit of 15% now and then, do you add anything else to your mix besides methyl hydrate and oil ?

Sorry for the delay in responding I've been busy.
I should mention that my OPS 30cc calls for 5% castor and thats lots for this motor. When I'm blending fuel for my Rossi's I usually use about 20%.
I buy the methyl hydrate from a local auto parts supplier costs me about $7.50 canadian. And nope thats all I add.
A buddy of mine bought some 5% nitro fuel and we used it. I found my rossi's didn't run near as smooth.
Best thing about mixing your own fuel is that there is nothing to be scared of! It works and its cheaper:)
