Problems with Powermaster in cans

Anyone having trouble with Powermaster glofuel in the new metal containers? My first one had an air leak at the base of the plastic cap connection to the can. It built up a finely divided black precipitate which I did not spot till my OS48 said bang on take off and spit off the lock nuts and prop and you know what happened to the plane!

The second one had the same air leak and a gray white precipitate slowly comming down. I filtered it off into a clean plastic fuel bottle. My 4 strokes began to run badly on it.

I switched to omega's four cycle fuel in plastic and all is now well. I know there was water in both cans but something else is amiss. The second can ruined my OS-F gloplugs. BUMMER.

I am just about to start on the cans too! I have 3 of them sitting in my shop waiting for good weather.

Hopefully, tomorrow will be the day and I can see if my supply is any good.

It is Powermaster 15%.

I have used one metal can of 15% without problem. I do however transfer it into my old plastic bottle on my flight box as soon as possible. I don't really like the metal cans.

Powermaster fuel

Hi Pilots-
I use powermaster 15% in my twin F-4(OS.91's)-and they run good on it-I just add 8 ozs. of castor to each gallon and the engines really like it-plus LOTS of smoke in the exhaust.

I will vouch for Jack's post, saw him fly his F-4 Sunday, and his motor's ran perfect!

I just started using the "cans" and so far have not had a problem.

What makes me MAD  , is I have a fairly new flightbox that I set up for the bottles, and now they've gone to can's. ERRRRRRRR

Fuel came in cans for years and we never seemed to have a problem. I still put my fuel in a can from the plastic bottle and again no problems. My flight box was designed for cans so when the bottles came along I just went to an auto parts store and yes bought a new can.

I used 6 x 12 Oz. tanks of the new Powermaster 15% in cans last Saturday and had no problems whatsoever.

Well, I think the verdict is in. No one else is having any problems with Powermaster. When I finish off the Omega 15% I switched to I'll go back to Powermaster.

Here is a benefit of the cans!

Well today I realised that the fuel in cans does have a benefit.

I was loading up the car this morning to go to the field and I was putting a full plastic bottle of Powermaster down next to my flight box and accidentally put it on top of one of the APC props sticking up.

The prop went straight through the plastic bottle and fuel leaked everywhere.

The missus won't be happy when she finds out about the fuel in the car! :(

I think I will give the cans another go!

Air leaks

How many of you are finding air leaks where the plastic cap is pressed into the top of the can?

I’m on my 3rd case of 30% and my 2nd case of YS 20/20 the blend in cans and have not had any trouble what so ever. I have not see any evidence of any leakage or air leaks. I like getting 6 gallons for the same HAZMAT fee as 4. I have used PowerMaster for many years in my planks and heli's with great results. I have never damaged a engine from a fuel related issue with PowerMaster fuel. Great Product.

My 2 cents.

What do you think of the Powermaster YS 20/20?

What do you use it in?

I have used it for years in my planks, 2 YS120's and a YS140L. It works great in my OS32SX-H heli engine. I sold all my planks and fly strictly heli's right now and use only 30% in my YS80 and now my OS.32SX-H. I think I got 5 gallons in cans yet of 20/20 I need to sell of at the next club swap meet. It's a good all around fuel. 20% nitro 20% oil.

I have 2 gallons of the YS 20/20 on the way and I have heard good things about it, so I was just wondering. It will also be used in an OS .32SX-H and a couple of other OS 2 and 4 strokes.

YS 20/20 In Cans **** EDIT 6-29-02 **FUEL OK

Grayeagle

Yes i have started having trouble with the YS 20/20 in the cans, the last two cans i purchased ( batch no. 2717 ) overheats my engines. A OS 61 FSN in my helicopter, and my OS 46 FX in my P51, it has plenty of power and smoke, but engines overheat and quit when i come back to an idle, Yes i have tried different plugs, and needle settings. When i switch to a different fuel they run normal again. I have run YS 20/20 (in plastic jugs ) for several years with no problems, IT would run in almost any engine equally well, in heat or cold, 4 strokes and helicopters. I suspect that something wrong with this batch. I have contacted Powermaster
****EDIT**** Update, 6-29-02 The fuel is good ,my fault, i simply changed to a cold glow plug (OS-R5 ) engines run fine. Cant believe i didnt think of this before I posted.

Ron,

Please keep us posted as to what you learn from PowerMaster. I too am having symptons just as you described with an O.S. 46FX and .91FX. Power output seems down and the residue is much darker than normal even though they are running very rich.

YS 20/20 In Cans Good

6-29-02 MY fault, NO problem with the Powermaster fuel. Yes i had trouble with my engines overheating, I spent half a day trying different things nothing would work, then it hit me, I was looking in an empty engine box and noticed some extra head gaskets, these are to lower the compression so a higher nitro fuel can be used. I ran to the local hobby shop and bought the coldest glow plugs they had,( OS R5 ) This fixed the over heating problem instantly. Didnt even have to add the shims to lower compression. Pleanty of power , can almost grab the muffler. after shutting engine down. I have been in modeling for 37 years, I guess I just wasnt thinking,I know better. Must have been a ( senior moment )
