OK...I use only 10% nitro fuel...works just fine for me and I don't see any reason to use more...costs too darn much anyway!
What do the rest of you like to use? ...and why? |

I use 10% for all my planes but my son's plane running a tower engine that was given to him seems to run better on 15%

Hey Gene,
I mix up what the engine needs based on the engine type, and intended use. For instance, I make up 10 nitro/ 20 oil for my sons trainer, and I make up 20/20 for my YS engines. I have several engines and only a few of them run the same fuel. My Fox 74's, all my 40-46 size sport/trainer engines, I run 10/20. My older control line Fox 35's I run 5 nitro/25 oil. My YS's and Saitos all run 20/20. My Rossi's and MVVS's all use 5/20 and my big Super Tigers run 3/12. As a general rule, thats what I run Gene. Are you glad you asked? Fuelman |

I use PowerMaster YS 20/20 in all my engines. Both 2 and 4 stroke. Large and small. Sometimes I add a small amount of Castor for a new engine. Reason? I guess I like to keep things simple.

LOL...only joking. Here in Oz it's exorbitantly expensive so we tend to use as little as possible. In my case, none at all. My standard brew for almost all engines is FAI, 20% castor, although when I remember to get some I'll add about 3% acetone. Apart from cost my other reasons for NOT using nitro are that it can't possibly improve on one flick starts, idle speeds are more than low enough to prevent unwanted taxiing, better fuel consumption, more than adequate power and I've never had a rusted bearing (the castor helps here of course). My RC engines running this fuel include Rossi 45, Enya 60X, Enya 80X and SC 108. CL engines include piped OS40VF, piped Irvine 40RLS, Stalker PRO61RE and ST 51 (although the ST uses 25% castor). |

Acetone reduces methanol's pre-ignition sensitivity (a lot of the guys in my club use it in their 4 strokes to help stop the prop kicking off) and it reduces the hygroscopic properties of methanol.
It's a reasonable fuel in itself being about part way between petrol and methanol. Shell A racing fuel has 3% acetone whereas BP racing fuel is pure methanol. |

I am really curious about what you said, the fuel you mix up. I run nothing but saito's, the big twin is one very thirsty engine and I also run it abit on the rich side, hey fuel is cheaper than the engine. It is cowled, which requires on board glow driver and so after reading your post about what fuel you use, got curious. Anyone there runing their Saito's on 0% nitro fuel. I was told that not using the nitro I would loose 500 to 600 rpm on the top end. Like I would notice that, yeah right. Most times I fly at half throttle anyway. I guess what I am really asking is if anyone else is runing saito's on o% and any advice you could give me. LOL, One person on here made a comment about 0% nitro is like beer with no alcohol, well darn, I quit drinking 30 years ago. Jim Neifert www.propnuts.ca |
