the redcat dune runner. Is it a piece of junk or a good car. The one and only redcat I have owned was a money pit and the biggest piece i have ever owned, couldn't get a tank of fuel Thu it with out breaking something. I know there are alot pf dealers on this site and honestly to me they just want to sell and will tell you how great they are (IMO). I know all rc cars will have some weak points and break at some point in time. I want to hear from people who own a dune runner or have some kid of experience with one. I don't want a monster truck.I want to know if the motors are the same a what the hpi has or if they can be swapped out without any major fabricating. whats going to break, what i need to do to make it dependable. Basically I don't want buy one and have to dump another chunk of cash a week later.
p.s. i go out every weekend and will run this thing hard with a group of baja's, I am not a basher small jumps and racing that's what its about for me.

I have the DR and Baja...get a Baja if you want to be the fastest on the track(when racing similar cars) I don't have many faults with my Redcat other than it is way heavier than my other beasts. Upgrade-wise, there are many more options available for the Baja. The real down side to the Baja is that it is 2WD only...at least you have an option to run 2WD or 4WD on the DR and 4WD is the best way to run these big beasts IMO.

i have owned a redcat backdraft 3.5. it was a pretty good buggy for the money.
and i now have a redcat lightning brushless car. that thing has proved to be super tough! it handles 2s lipo and i have jumped it at the skate park. still have yet to break anything on it!
i honestly believe that redcat is trying to step up their game. and i can say from experience that their customer service is on par with the bigger RC companies.
there was recently a thread on the redcat gasser. try to find it. the tread made me wish i had bought one instead of my king motors baja.
i think that redcat got started just re-selling stuff from china. but i believe that they are now designing many of their vehicles. and some of their electronics are getting better. the redcat 8E line uses hobbywing brushless systems, and the EXP pro line uses the novatech system. both systems are pretty good, without being crazy expensive.

The 4wd is why I am even considering the DR. I have read about the mt losing or breaking diff cups or something i just want to spend my money on hop ups not unnecessary repairs. also i was looking at the dr and it has hy motor whats the deal with that is it differnt than a cy or a zen. BTW the MT is a monster of truck and looks awsome I just dont want a truck

In regards to reliabilty, my DR has been way more sturdier than my Baja and since it has a lot less parts, it is an easier and cheaper maintenance factor. Don't get me wrong but the wieght of the DR is a big hindrance IMO and if you want to race it against similar buggys, you will be disappointed. The Redcat TT buggy may be the better choice if you are looking at their current lineup. They have a XT model coming out that may be the best bet. I am switching to lighter spec'd beasts and also the Hurrax in the near future. I have posted video of the DR in the past, just do a search.

I never had the drive cup issues that were prevalent in the past year. I run a 29cc CY with the stock clutch. The original 26cc is sitting on the shelf waiting to be upgraded. I switched out the wheels and hubs to HPI Baja versions. It keeps things simple for me ;-) Check out the TT also.

I just wanted to clarify that the dealers on this site that I have dealt with have been honest and stood behind their product. Its just if you go to ford ealer they will tell you ford the best, a chevy dealer and chevy is the best. I wanted to hear from owners.

the guy who i ran my KM baja with his redcat MT was WAY faster on a track than my baja. the 4wd helped him shoot out of the corners and handle much better. his had the 26 or 29cc motor. not sure which type.
as for the type, my king motors baja has a off-brand 23cc motor. i have about 5 hours of bashing on it and the motor hasnt given me a single issue. maybe it doesnt put out the same HP and the ZY or zen motors, but it has held up fine.
