A 1 tooth dogbox! lol That's a great idea! Maybe it is the angle of the picture but in the second picture (top view) it looks like the dog gear is still engaged in the forward gear when it starts engaging in the reverse gear, in other words there is no neutral in the middle. I am trying to imagine this operate and it seems (to me, maybe I am wrong) that this will make it harder to engage, because while it will be trying to grab the reverse gear while rotating slightly, as soon as it will try to grab, it will still be slightly stuck in the forward gear, and kind of binding. Do you see what I am trying to say ? Whereas if they were just distanced enough so the dog gear cannot touch to both gears at the same time, it would allow the two gears to rotate at different speeds just before engaging, making it easier for the speed to sync and snap in place.
Maybe it is already all good and the pic makes it look closer though
that, or maybe I am wrong too hahahahah
Are you going to mount the middle dog sliding piece movement with a spring? It would allow the servo to go say in reverse, but still allow the dog piece to not be in reverse mode until the gears start moving and the pin aligns. Say if you are not moving, and engaging reverse, the servo would not struggle trying to push the piece, but only keep a tension so the dog is ready to engage when aligned.
I find the whole idea exciting and can't wait to see the first vid of reverse testing!!

I have used a bicycle gear wire between the shifting arm and the gear linkage as you might see on one of the pics, this makes the servo move almost to its stop position, but still pushing hard enough to make it engage with a little blip on the throttle. When in driving position the servo will hold the shifter in position on the "forward gear", when servo is not engaged it will try its best to drag the dog gear into driving position and that is where another blip on the throttle makes it snap into position. The lack of neutral is done on purpose to make this work as planned

I spend time all day on it, hehe! I have even tested the dogbox on it, works pretty awesome. When seeing the car "hopping" a bit when engaging and to drive in reverse was a proof of that i had achieved something special
Some small diseases on it but i think it is fixed now. But i had too much to keep my hand on when testing so no video, sorry. I am also redesigning the livery, i am making decals for the Allied Polymer-livery now as shown in the first post in this thread. Some other minor modifications too, pics to come sooner or later!

Hey Lars!!! Can't wait to see that dogbox in action!
In another line of thoughts, was thinking it would be cool as hell to have an engaging clutch with a channel on a servo, making it possible to rev high and drop the clutch! I wonder if anyone here ever attempted that. Would allow realistic launches with wheelspin even with lower power motor/higher gearing.

Ooh, now that would be cool! The easiest thing to it is to have some stiff springs in the clutch and program the transmitter to brake on a slave channel and use that as a launch-control maybe. That is the easy way out

Where can I get hold of one of these shells? I have tried Lars a while ago but still can't get hold of any.
Anyone out there that has one and wants to sell?

Hey Lars! Long time no talk
have you done some progress on this since then? Is it still simmering on that back burner waiting to resume?
I have not been here much lately that's for sure, wondering what guys like you, Dirty vinylpusher and the other are up to now.

Like everyone else, I would love to have one of those mk2 escort 1/5 scale shells.. I’m a dinosaur when it comes to technology and much prefer mechanical old school things..I don’t do social media and this is the first time I’ve ever done one of these chat rooms… the things I’ll do for a mk2 shell….😂
