Default Tuning the Pipe,is it necessary?

Can you squeeze more torque / top end by lengthening / shortening the pipe?? been here ,done this on gas boats, .... I just got one of the generic SS tuned pipe (China) but the way it came,it was set up so's the pipe was like an inch away from the gas cap.... either the jig was setup bass ackwards or the person who welded it did it left - right, instead of right to left.... , anyways, I cut it and remounted it onto the left side and has plenty of room to check this out, this is on my Matrix5sc,30cc, 4wd ,I swapped the SC gearing for MT gears, and it comes on fine outta the bottom end, but I sacrificed some top end, I was wonderin if i can get some back.... opinions welcome .. Thanks [&:] MPB

the ss pipes aren't the greatest anyhows, marginally better than a heli can...all noise and not too much of anything else...so if you've altered the length of the header or cones even a little then you will have changed the reflected sound wave timing has to hit the exhaust port at the right time to work properly...whenever i've modded dom and vrc pipes to fit things they weren't made for i always ensure that i don't balls up the critical lengths....
you can try playing with stinger length to eek a few more rpm but it wont increase hp or torque...got any pics post modification so we can see what's going on?

Thanks MooMan, I'll post pics tomorrow, it's all packed in da car... I've played with this before, tuning R/C gas boats,, as anything else, you tune for the track, or environment,.... more tedious with gas boats as prop pitch, dia, pipe length, carb settings, etc,it can be a joy, or a PITA,But when you know you ekked out every bit of performance that you can, with what you have, . ,it kinda gives you that warm,fuzzy,feeling...lol.. I'll be testing and tuning tomorrow, and will let Y'all know wassup. I 've just seen so many pipes that are out there w/o this allowable configeration ............i was just a'wonderin ......... Thanks...Robert
