I don't know if it's the same for the Firehammer but I know the FG trucks and such use matched Pinions and spurs due to the inability to move the motor to adjust mesh. I just recently learned of this myself. The 2 combos I now use are the 16/48 and the 18/46, again in matched set's.

the bigger the pinion, the faster the top speed.....the smaller the pinion, more low end power....

No, 20/48 will not work.....on page 34 of the FG catalog it shows all the gear combinations and what the gear ratio would be. Some combos are 16/48, 18/46, 20/44, 22/42.....

Next time you place an order, get yourself a copy of the FG catalog, it is well worth the money. I know you can look at it from the internet, but it is so much easier to look through the catalog.

No pinion for a FG will fit the Firehammer. We have steel pinions for the Firehammer with 17, 18, 19 and 20 teeth; all for the 48 spur gear.

@ liteuser: A.f.a.i.k. there are no larger pinions available for the Firehammer (neither steel nor plastic), so changing the spur gear will not work.

I just went back and saw you were asking about the Firehammer.

http://www.molzermoweryracing.com/firehammer.htm

According to this site the FG gears won't fit on the Fierhammer, sorry for the confusion.

I have a steel 18 tooth new in package for the hammer. I purchased it from hobbyteck in germany when I was ordering for my MB. Thought I would get one while I was paying the shipping in case I purchased a firehammer later. I don't think I will be needing it. Plan on getting a Leopard race for the track I'm building on my 10 acres. And the other thing, Hobbyteck has pinions for fg that are not in the fg catalog. I have a 17:48 combo on my mb using the stock 48 tooth plastic gear.
