For the best "Bang per buck" it would have to be a better pipe. It adds loads more power for a relatively low investment. get one of the FG or Carson tuned pipes for value or one of the Samba type pipes for wallet busting quality.

I would buy at least front brakes first, then a tunepipe, and from there...

I went for pretty alloy bits as I already had a pipe, then I went for Cable front disk brakes

Do pipes for petrol engines make a big improvement in performance? I know for nitro it does, but brother said for petrol engines to a lesser degree.

2 stroke gas engines dont even run properly w/ out a tuned pipe. They are very important.

Mine runs fine without any exhaust it kept falling off when I first got it. The noise was soooo loud but it ran fine. My strimmer runs fine with no exhaust apart from a rusted stump

running fine and running as designed are completly different. 2 strokes need the pipe to help keep the fuel/air combo in the cylinder. Since they dont have valves the fuel will get sucked out the exhaust port without combusting properly, the back pressure/pressure wave produced by the tuned pipe keeps the charge in the cylinder where it is burned and used to lube the cylinder, without it you are at a definate disadvantage.

Steel pinion gear ( along with the cover for those gears), thicker diff. cover, a pipe and upgrade motor mounts

i bought mine secong hand, already had the duel steering servos, fg tuned pipe and front discs.
the first thing, and only thing was a stronger brake/throttle servo.
is it worth putting rear discs on or not really?

My first mod was a FG tuned pipe, and I love it.

I'm probably going to take a beating on this one but I have to say, in part, your wrong. My MB pulls the front wheels for 20 feet at least, has been clocked at 49 MPH on pavement and runs with the STOCK FG exhaust.

Will it run better with a pipe? Depends on ones definition of better. It will make more power and rev faster and perhaps a bit higher. My weed wacker motor as well as my backpack blower are both 5 years old, have countless hours on them, run at WOT for long periods of time and show excellent wear characteristics all WITHOUT the benefit of the "Extra" lubrication supposedly offered by a tuned pipe.

These engines will run 100% FINE without a pipe. Could they runn better? sure but let's not say they can't/don't run fine without one. That could force a lot of new guys to spend money right away they might not have to at first.

If you dont want a tuned pipe thats fine, its your buisness. But please dont confuse people when it comes to the benifits of a proper exhaust on a performance 2 stroke engine. What i've been saying is not my opinion, its fact. Any performance 2 stroke needs backpressure to run at its best and lube properly. Stock exhausts have a certin amount of back pressue designed into them from the start. A tuned pipe works w/ the engine and extracts power at different rpm ranges. Some pipes give bottom end, some high and some mid. From an engineering standpoint it makes alot of sence to work w/ the engine to make power and allow it to run at its most efficient. Thats it. Personaly, I think they look cool too....

i suppose alot of people just replace the plastic drivetrain parts with more plastic.

I have to agree with geniusgene and I don't think the weedwacker analogy is really valid

The zenoah is designed for performance and your average whippersnipper motor is designed to be idiot proof and last forever. With both sound and fuel efficiency restrictions I'd be suprised if they rev past 11,000rpm vs zenoah at 18,000plus.

Anyone ever put extractors and a sports exhaust on a full scale car? That's the sort of change we are talking about.

probably even better than that.

Perhaps you guys are missing my point which, sorry to say IS valid.

A pipe IS NOT required for great performance out of these vehicles. Plain and simple. Argue it all you like but the fact is they function quite well with the stock exhaust. That was my point. If someone is starting out looking to purchase one of these bullets than he should be looking at spending his money on as high a quality radio and servo setup as they can first, before worrying about throwing a pipe on becuase someone here said they really don't run well without one.

I used the weed whacker analogy to counter the point about proper lubrication or lack thereof that was stated would happen if you don't run a tuned pipe. A perfect analogy quite honestly. By the way my blower has a 26cc Zenoah on it. Granted, probably not the same style porting but close enough for the comparison I am using.

I currently am running my MB without a tuned pipe for one reason only.....I just purchased a 29cc stuffed crank, Billet head motor and an O'niell brothers pipe. Should have it by Monday hopefully.

My point was, Spend the money on the best radio and servo gear you can first. Any joe blow is smart enough to know it doesn't matter how fast the dam thing is if you can't stop it or turn it. Once they have that part of the truck done right than by all means, put any pipe you want on there. It will perform better (See I did say it) Just don't say it won't run correctly without one.

I'm done..........

No Doubt Gene and I did not want to come off as a jerk about it. Some of your points were valid......Just a little perhaps confusing

You cannot go wrong with these trucks/buggies even if left 100% stock. They are just that much fun.......

Now if only my Monster motor would show up I'd be in a better mood.
