Default RE: honda 4 stroke in a 1/5th scale?

A couple of years ago the tech committee for QSAC (quarter scale auto club) was doing some testing using the big honda 4-stroker in their NASTRUCK class. This was the bigger of the two motors available. The trucks were just as fast if not faster with the 4-strokes and torque was unbelievable. We had one truck take off when the radio wasn't turned on, it spun nose first into the pid road wall and at full throttle, it smoked the tires. Everyone stood and watched in disbelief as no 2-stroke Zenoha could have done that.

They are not a direct fit for the Zenoha engines but the smaller 1.5 hp will match up exactly with the mounting holes and clutch when compared to the Zenoha G2D96 or older engines.

Another good straigh up bolt in is the ECHO engines.

Guys! Please don't contribute to the demise of 2 stroke engines in our hobby. I raced motocross and off road bikes for twenty years and it was very sad to see the 500cc 2 strokes disapear. Four strokes are great. I just happen to be a 2stroke finatic. There is no rush like the hit of a 2 stroke powerband. size to size
there is no comparision between the two. 2stroke out performances the 4 stroke period. Thats why they let 450cc 4 strokes in the 250 cc class and 250cc 4strokes in the 125cc class.

I know this is large scale and you guys are talking gas and I'm with ya on what's being said. I love the 4 strokes also. My only experience was this. Friend and I had 8th scale nitro street cars. He had a .21, single speed tranny. I had a .30 four stroke with a three speed tranny. Same sized cars and such. It was almost a dead match for racing. But it was a different in that he would thrash me on the straights and I would take him out of the corners. The sound of the four stroke was killer and I would use 1/4 the fuel he would. I love em! But I'm still under the impression that the 2 strokes just have more of a violent pissed off type power where the 4's are more grunty and torque related. Both have their places but I don't plan on converting any of my 5th scales, boats or nitro's again just because I love the sounds. Think they need to work on the 4's a little more to get them dialed like they have the full sized bikes and quads.

Just my two cents,

Default RE: honda 4 stroke in a 1/5th scale?

Modern cycle 4 strokes are awsome. Take the Honda or Yam 450 motocross bikes. As much power as the old Honda CR 500R with a weight close to a modern 250 2 stroke. My last bike was a 2001 Honda XR650R. 100mph out of the box after you uncorcked the exhaust and 49.7 horses at the rear wheel. This bike is no light weight and is designed for open spaces and 2 track riding like I used to do. At an idle in second gear putting along so slow you could hardly balance the bike you could snap the throttle and it would stand up right now. That is what I like about 4 stroke power. TORQUE. This friend of mine took me to a trail that I have never been on. He grew up near that trail system and knew it like the back of his hand. He was on a Kawasaki KX500 and I had a 95 Honda XR600R. Much slower bike than my 2001XR and his KX. Here he is all day clutching, shifting, breaking and tiring himself out trying to harness the hit of that big 2 stroker. Me on the other hand running in third gear all day long unless we had to stop. I could put through corners and do 50-60 MPH on the straits all in that gear. Only one place that day he got away from me and that was a section that was flat and smooth and about a quarter mile long. In the tighter stuff he couldn't use all that power anyway. We stopped to rest for a few part way through and he said " Do you ever have to shift that thing"? My bike at the time, even though new, was and old out dated design. Modern 4 strokes are a whole different machine compared to the fat old XR600R. They are the way of the future for bikes and quads and E.P.A. will make sure of that. That is why they now are light and powerful. Companys have seen the writing on the walls and needed to make them that way to be competitive. Any 2 stroke bike or quad fans that have not ridden a modern thumper will be very suprised if they try one of these new animals.

I have a 25cc honda overhead cam 4 stroke in a Honda string trimmer and it would be a perfect engine in a car. Idles so nice and and is so smooth as compared to a 2 stroke.

Oh no no I didn't mean it like that.
I was just stating the obvious as I had nothing better to do at the time.

Carry on

I know its a old thread,,, but why no mention of power? u can have all the torque in the world but it is nothing with out RPM

26cc Cy
torque 1.09 foot pound
RPM 11,500
=2.39hp

random example
Torque 1.5 foot pound 50% more torque
RPM 7,000
=2hp

so how does that translate...

i've been looking at the honda engines for a while now and think my next build will be a 4 stroke... with cam re profiling, bigger valves and efi i think they'll make some decent power...add a blower and they'll be matching the 2strokes....i've read some plane guys have run them on a 25-35% nitro methane mix and they run really well...
the one in the video posted here seems to run strong...and have to love the noise

So there you are chaps, it's proven itself in 24hour endurance races, get your components/orders ready for your 4 stroke installation. Check with Raco1967 ([email protected])

Foxy - I hope this doesn't violate any house rules?

Mooman007uk - I reckon if you popped one of these 4 strokes in your icelandic challenger motor, it'll perform pretty well and sound great. What projects are you working on at the moment?

working on my house at the moment i think my next build project, when i have time, will be aimed at breaking the speed record for a gas 5thscale...need to come up with a cvt similar to a snowmobile setup

i sold my twin jeep and the Mk1 i built but was thinking of sticking a 4 banger maybe in my losi...the gx35 is dirt cheap so will pick one up shortly to start fiddling with
