The best part is the guys claiming it won't make any difference don't own a Baja, haven't touched one, but strangely know they have the same can & tube size. I thought in the pictures the Baja looked alot smaller but I don't actually have one so I wouldn't comment on it, apparently that is only OK for trained professionals!

on our radar, stock 27mph, without the stinger 29 mph, we may have a extra slow one, Tuned pipe helped a bit (31 mph) but the motor is not the same CY you normally would buy. There are different grades of the motor with different costs.

A cylinder off any of the current motors really wakes up the Baja( zenoah 16 really allow it to sing). The stock motor ( or the one we tested) did not want to rev like we are accustom to seeing with the CY & Zenoah motors normally run.

There is nothing wrong with the Baja, it performs well out of the box, and depending on were you come from you will think it is fast or slow.

A clutch option would be a great addition, and add to some holeshot performance. engage the motor 2000-3000 rpm higher, this is true of all stock large scale cars.

Yes according to RC Driver (July Issue) they are saying the Baja ran 29mph. Which is kind of slow. It should have at least a 26cc Zenoah in it. They did give the car some good ratings though.

what a great factual posts which sounds more like the truth,i didnt know there was diferent grades of the same engine so paying the extra 60euro for a baja shiped with a zen (hobbytek) doesnt seem a bad deal.

Well if thats the case either the traxxas is about to loose its Zenoah or I will just get a new Zen for the Baja.

plenty cy head kits out there, cheaper option than either....or if your happy with they way it is no point changeing it,the extra few mph prob means nothing to justify a new engine price

What inparticular made that a factual post?? Earlier, all you guys were asking for calibration, video of the radar, backup data, first born, you guys discredited all radar as inaccurate, now all of the sudden this is a factual post!? Because it SOUNDS more like the truth??? Oh, to you, that's why, I see now! Ok, I get it now!!

ammdrew, I am in no way discrediting your findings & I believe you 100%, you obviously have done atleast something to prove one way or another, aside from argue about a vehicle you don't own & have never touched.

It's nice to see these kind of figures. I'll use a gps to see the speed when I find someone around here that has one. Most guys have nitros and the price tag scares some of them off!!! ($1199cad) LOL But spending $800can for a nitro is justified.

I think you get used to a speed no matter what, then want to go faster. When I get mine out, I'll probably be happy for a couple weeks, then want more speed, it's my nature. I do it with everything!

In the march issue of R/C Car they used a GPS to get the speed. This is what they said and I quote "The Baja 5B was clocked by GPS at 38 mph on the soft-sand dunes of San Felipe, but it'll do over 40 mph on hardpack". The more I run the car the faster and snappier it is getting. Mine seemed to be tighter than all the Zens I have broken in. At first when I would turn it off the motor would stop instantly, no short purr at the end or nothing just stop. Its starting to loosen up a little now and run faster. As far as the muffler goes I took it off and looked at it more and not only is it smaller with a smaller exit hole than the one on my Zen powered Traxxas, but there is also sound absorption stuff inside. I pulled the muffler off the traxxas and there is nothing inside, just an empty can. I tried to put the Zen can on the Baja to do some testing but it would not fit because of space. So I put the Baja can on the Zen powered Traxxas and guess, what slowed it down and took away some of the low end snap. I had to retune the carb so it would run right. That is how restrictive the muffler is. It's an x-can for me unless someone comes out soon with a rear exit tuned pipe.

I'll be doing some video of the Baja speed tests with a GPS on Monday or Tuesday. Then you can see for yourself what the stinger does for speed. It made a huge difference on mine, but i didn't have time to mount the GPS before I left for vacation. I had to re-tune mine for the 105 degree weather we are having, and that made a big difference as well. You have to remember, most of the people that are buying the Baja are new to large scale, so the learning curve of tuning the 2-cycle will take some time.

I put a Zenoah g230rc on mine. Night and day difference from stock. Has power everywhere now. I'm waiting for exhaust options also as the stocker still restricts a bunch.

Mine seemed fast enough but the motor died after about 2 hours of use,Axle boots tore after about an hour ,The rear suspension arms seemed to have been about worn out quickly as well. [sm=thumbdown.gif]
Motor has been sent to HPI and the other issues are being taken care of.

I used 89 octane with 25:1 oil.

I'm not sure who wants the calibration specs for our radar gun, but I think many people think that there's some secret code like in Contra to get unlimited lives.

The calibration of most radar guns, and check is simply a tuning fork. When I hit the fork and place it in from of the gun it should read what the frequency is set to, which it does. Radar guns really don't "fall out of calibration" where it reads 50% more than it should.

Our test of the speed was without the restrictive extension on the muffler (it's not a tuned pipe) and we reached our top speed in a pretty good distance. If you read our mag, or even go to our website where the review is posted, you'll see the actual plotted curve of the acceleration.

I'm not sure why everybody has to say that magazines are big liars, but what makes everybody else more credible. Does not owning one and saying everybody else lies make you the expert?

The 5B is fast and fun. It's not made to do 50mph out of the box and at that speed it would kill somebody. Check out our video on our website and see that they are fun, do have lots of low-end and are fast. These engines don't rev like smaller nitro engines and even off idle they spin the tires easily...they just don't sound like they are trying. TORQUE doesn't make noise.

That's pretty much why my signature currently has what it has and why my avatar shows what it shows--Believe it or not.

Second-hand opinions are about as useful as used toilet paper--You can either use it or forget about it. It's your choice.

I finally got my stock Baja up to 39 mph. When I installed a Spektrum, I noticed the throttle wasn't opening fully. With 125%, it now opens all the way.

I wonder if all Baja's don't pull their throttle linkage fully at WOT? Any other Baja owners checked and/or tweaked the throttle linkage or servo endpoint to get the carb to go to full throttle?

If this is epidemic in Baja's you gotta wonder why HPI would hamper the Baja performance with that extensioin pipe on the muffler and not fully throttling the carb.
