Default Your opinion on the 1/5 Dirt Buster RC from V*Tech RC?

My 1/8 OFAN buggy is tones of fun, but I'm really interested in a 1/5 gas powered buggy

The Baja 5b looks super and I assume the quality is good since that's a very popular model and brand. I found this 1/5 model and brand on eBay and I'd like to know what you guys think about it. [link=http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=280213821666&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=018]1/5 from V*Tech RC[/link] it seems to be a Canadian company but I'm sure the buggy is 100% from Asia.

The hpi Baja RTR sells for $1,000, but this V*Tech goes for $500. I know the cheap stuff comes back to hunt you, but at times you do find less known brands for less.

It looks like a copy of the Baja. There's a good chance all of the parts are compatible with the baja. Read other posts in this forum regarding clones & kingmotors 1/5 buggy. There is one post with an excellent review. The kingmotors buggy is 100% compatible with the baja, because it basicall IS a baja.

As far as I know, nobody has expressed any feelings or experience about that particular branded model, however, one can't help but wonder if it's not the exact same car as the King Motors Baja clone, which is reviewed and discussed in detail just a few threads below this one.

I strongly recommend you buy the real deal, unless budget absolutely precludes it.

A friend of mine ordered the same buggy of Ebay awhile back from the same people. It took awhile to get to NY from their location. I have a Hpi Baja and yes the parts look very much alike but IMO they arent as strong. He busted an upper arm the 2nd day he had it, I had a used one from my Baja in the parts box but we couldnt get them to line up for crap. The engine is also a PIECE!! It never ran good, bogged down a lot, idle was rough and so on.. I wouldnt spend my money if ya already have $500 in your pocket save another $500 or find a nice used Hpi Baja on the other forums or even Evilbay...

Just not worth the headaches if you ask me..

Good luck
Chris

For sure, $500 more gets me the real thing so I would not take the chance to end up with a counterfeit P O S.

I just bought one. It should be here in a week or two. I bought because I was on a tight budget like Foxy said. And getting for 520 shipped I cant go wrong. I messaged the guy after seeing this asking him if this is the one from King Motor. I'll get back to you once he sends me it and I will do a review once I get it. Hopefully it performs well(knock on wood).

DarkFire989, definitely let me (us) know how the hpi Baja imitation work's out. Every one has a good point, for a little more why not get the real thing but on the other side like you said for $500 you can afford to fix or improve the flaws. Hope it turns out to be a good buy

I should have it in a week or two. This guy orders them in bulk then resells. Mine wont be shipping until the 9th sadly The wait should be worth it though. Which will be sick because I should be getting it right before April Vacation. A whole week!

I bought one of those .....just to check it out.....mine should be here not from the V tech but from another person

Mine left china 2 days ago EMS.... I'm giving the clone to my kid I figure why not let him learn on a $500-600 buggy.

I will let you know what box it comes in .......I bet it says King motors

I bought a SS and got it today.......Thanks Daves

Looking at the SS the inspection spickers on the bags have oriental inspection stamps

Jeeze, arent you a big shopper? LOL. Your kid is lucky to be learning on a 1/5 scale. Dont let him get to nitro, too much work. I bet mine will be a King Motors too, Ive been looking around, no one else makes them but King Motors.

I just got a response from v*tec. He claims that its made from some company called T-Rex. But I think the box will be saying King Motor.

I bet you it doesnt. Kingmotors uses a fuelie engine. This one is not a fuelie.

**Edit**
And, after re-looking at his auctions it doesnt state the engine type, although I swear I was researching these and it was some other off brand engine.

Well I recieved my clone today..it came in a box with chidren under 14 forbidden to play written on it

Then a white box with 1/5 scale race car written on the box...no idea who made it... shipped on 3-31-08 from China..... not bad 5 days international mail...$565 shipped

After I opened up the box the decals gave the manufacturer away....KING MOTORS....Any baja clone you see on ebay comes from the same Clone KING

I will be compairing the parts from my SS to this Clone and I will post what parts are innerchangable.

Haha, thats what Im doing, wana sell me one? JK. I think Ill get a dx 3.0 or 2.0 off ebay. I have seen 3.0's for 170, but i think they dont come with the servos[:'(]. But I would need to buy a big 1/4 servo for steering anyway, correct?

you dont want to use the servos that come with the spectrum to small not enough torqe peolpe say a Hitc 5745 I dont know if a 805bb will work

The only diifference from the other cloned baja on the forum is the body color...... the clones come with both servos RTR but i would switch to something better

So you still need a high torque throttle servo too? Yeah, mine is coming with a black body. I cannot wait any longer!

When the time comes to get a new radio. I'll ask what servos I should get for throttle and steering. BTW: Whats with the shocks on the clone, do they not have shafts, non adjustable?
