I wished that they had stuck with Zenoah, When I purchased my Smartech Traveller it came equipped with a Zenoah 230RC and being a cheaper model on the market compared to main stream brands, I was surprised how well it held up to bashing..admittedly mine did more racing on dirt track oval than doing jumps..but it was well built, as in it held up very well ..I know they have gone to their own brand engines but I hope the durability is similar..I might be hoping for to much because of the added drive train...the more mechanical parts you have the more chance of breaking something..but hey , I guess thats our hobby!

how about a pin thats threaded on 1 end, so it secures itself ........slide it in then thread it
That's what I meant...a Savage style pin, with threads on one side.
Actually, the Savage one fits, but Smartech would have to change one hole on the cup to be the diameter of the pin (instead of threaded). Otherwise, it's too much slop, and I think that the pin would bend in the threaded hole. Make sense?

I know something I can't share at the moment, but basically, it leads me to believe Smartech's engines will be up to CY quality. We'll see.

It sounds alot like a homelite chainsaw. [] That metal on metal trany chang chang chang jingle would drive me insane after 10 minutes ( about howlong the video is LOL)

BUT, atleast it is metal, and wont fatigue as rapid as some plastic would, so I guess thats the trade off

I would much rather hear metal to metal tingle than to replace plastic spur gears all the time

You will find that the engine is starving for air. The std air cleaner choke's the engine. I had the same problems with my Titan. I fitted a Baja 5B air cleaner set up and it was like a whole new truck. The engine is a copy of the CY. Tho it dosent have the porting a stock CY has.

Cheers,
Rob.

the jinglely noise we hear is actually play/movement that the steel gear on the clutch bell has.....the bell is a vented clutch bell just to let everyone know that

heres a short clip of the movement..dont know if its from bad carrier bearings or the bell itself ...gona try a alloy carrier and new bearings ..maybey a clutch bell.

I just read intro, it's a 28cc. Who makes this motor is it a cy, it's definately not a zenaoh.
We make this engine by ourself.

if you add the shipping and insurance, its not going to be that much cheaper...but point taken..I got better idea , might run it as is, find the weak spots first before throwing more torque at it. the other the two options I might look at
1) improve the existing motor first..making it breathe , open up the exhaust etc ...or

2) If I want to try something different I could throw in one of my racing zen's 230's just for the heck of it
but weak spots first ..then modify..seems you've already a couple of small ones but no biggies which is good

I'm still disecting the vehicle and taking pictures...the 28 cc engine head is alittle different its a 3 bolt head, most of ours have 2

The construction of the bottom end is also different the clutch housing is solid no bolt heads

The carburator is not a Walbro but works very well

The pad on the clutch is also different but works good... CY on the left

hellya, is there a name on that engine anywhere?

I like the idea of 3 bolts holding the pot on.

I just replaced the base gasket on mine this week, 2 bolts on a standard r/c engine is just not enough.

CY and Zenoah should follow that design.

How does the overall power and quality of the engine seem?

the engine runs great, torque is good... never had a problem starting it.....only thing I didn't like is the stock airfilter it clogges easy when in the grass choking the engine

The filter draws air from the rear of the filter

Is the clutch housing in the same casting as the motor half? What I mean is it integral with the side of the engine?

What I believe they did was reversing the bolts and the bolt heads are behind the flywheel going into the clutch houing...its not 1 piece
