Yes, very sensitive!

All of the parts are finished so I have three complete shocks and one that looks like an exploded view [&:]

I should be receiving another piece of tubing in the mail shortly to finish the 4th piece, and in the meantime I will fabricate some mounts and get them on the truck. I will post more pictures (and maybe better quality, too) when everything is together.

i had to edit and correct my last post i got totally confused .... for some bizzare reason i thought you had moved on to talking about hubbs (uprights) i didnt realise you were still discussing shocks.

The whole thread is about shocks, silly!

I used sanitary tubing for the bodies... hence the shiny. They are actually kind of marked up a little in order to match the rest of the truck. I cannot have anything looking too good or else I will have to start polishing [:'(]

I will when I get around to it. The nitro crawler thread was where I posted most of my work, but since my web site is no more all the pictures are gone.

I mounted the shocks temporarily to get an idea of how they will look. I have to say it's nice to see them angled like the original Clodzilla! That chassis was my inspiration, after all Getting the blue off the frame is also a good thing. I don't want to see all kinds of color on this thing!

Anyway, some pictures of the mock-up:

I finally received the tubing in the mail just before the holiday. This morning I was able to get the 4th body cut and threaded so now they are all on the truck. I also attached an image of the original Clodzilla upon which I have been trying to improve [&:]

I wish I still had that little truck for a comparison picture. It was so small in comparison, and hard to believe that all I originally wanted to do was make some longer suspension links [:-]

The steering actuator has also been moved to the top of the chassis in order to straighten the cables a bit and allow for easier motor mounting options.

Thanks [8D]

So far everything is working fine, but without any preload adjustment I am finding it difficult to figure spring tension.

I have not done much since completing the shocks... sorry. During the last few months I had finalized a schematic for the power and steering control, but I did not back it up and ended up losing the information when my computer decided to have a bad day. Now I must find my notes and start over []

[][][] Well, I hope you get back to it soon! I really really really want to see it done preferably before all of Sheo's projects. LOL

Does anyone know of a supplier for compression springs which sells by the part? I keep trying different spring rates but it's tough... the spring diameter must be no more than about .610" and the length can be between 1.75" and 2.25". So far I have springs from McMaster Carr which have a compression load of ~21lbs. As I add electronics and other parts I will need to increase this but I'm having trouble finding heavier springs.

Probably not.
For starters you're talking in that strange imperial language....

Your best bet would probably be to look outside the RC realm and find a place that specialises in, well, springs, and tell them what you're doing and how much weight, compression etc is to be factored in to the equation.
I always prefer to go in to a shop rather than buying stuff online.

I also spend a lot of time at my local scrapyard digging around in all the stuff they've got laying around there.

For my large project I've got some nice return springs from the backrest of a car seat.
Still chasing some suitable tubing for them though, which I will find one day.
All in good time.

(The pics below are from a mock-up shock I made a while back.)

do you have a fastenal by you? they have some springs & such. or possibly an auto zone as they have springs in bins behind the counter for older drub breaks, or
a farm supply type store where they would have equipment repair parts

I do not have one near me, but looking at their web site shows me a possibility... I found some 2 1/2" x .080" x .625" carbon steel springs that just might do the trick. Plus, they sell them by the piece :-)

Thanks for the tip!
