I was wondering if the chain was too loose. Or is it supposed to be like that?

Is that pocketbike chain?
I've found that it loosens up a lot after a while.
On my car I had it done up so tight I could barely get the connection link in and after a while of driving it had stretched heaps.
Just my experience.

Arrr, I just remembered that the chain I used on that car wasn't actually off a pocketbike, but a chain I bought from a place that sells bearings and machinery parts.
Nonetheless, most chains stretch after a while so it's good to keep 'em tight to begin with.

Just like a fan belt, chain stretches with use...ever seen ol' dirtbike sprockets that look like surfboard fins? That's from links SO stretched, the pitch from chain to sprocket differs in length. Gotta have a tensioner, or adj. axle, fellas. Takes some time to get to that stage, though.
All the best!
