some more pics of the beetle and my strip down,i have the CAD head removed and im getting it helicoiled at a garage monday,as i dont have or couldnt get a set i will get a local garage man to do it for me who has a set.....

i built my new MARCUS FIELDMAN engine, all finished and boy what a job......it was the tighest engine i ever assembled......the piston was tough to get it in to cylinder but got there in the end,fab looking porting work....eurppean champion 09 in the uk,it is the high speed engine version

i cant wait to run my fg onroad with this engine...a nd new pipe combo.....i reckon from the 4hp well over the 6.5

now to wait until i get CAD head back helicoiled.

i decided to go along with SLAWHAMMERS idea and just replace lines/tank and fuel filter and see how i get on from there.

some pics of the macrus fieldman rebuild and my beetle stuff.

3-4hours this evening i was tired so i will continue tomorrow..

Default RE: DC2/GT5/C5/FG/EVO/ELCON/CAD/BEETLE

some more pics....note that mf is an onroad engine and cad is strictly for beetle offroad.

cad engine to the right stripped top end on show and marcus fieldman to the left, two strong engines although CAD having much more serious modifications and porting work and also having the added advantage of being a four bolt.

in fairness the cad engines porting is mindblowing, very deep machining and precise looking.

the mf has a lightned piston and some differnt porting for high speed onroad aplication.

DC: I see your building a engine...Let me ask you this same goes for the cad engine..
are you using paper base cylinder gaskets?..If so the horse crap..you will have a air leak...get copper gaskets
do it correct..just my opinion here..Slawhammer

cad engine slaw allready has gasket attached with a special sealant to the head so it just needs to be sat on bottom and works fine.

but your right about the copper gasket on the other engine but i hadnt any around,i may order some up and throw them in

along with pico unit like you suggest,im waiting to get a few pound from a fella i built a wall for and for some strange reason he is avoiding me like the plague after spending 2weeks in -5 conditions now he cant pay me lol

oh well im used of it in the building trade

i am getting engine helicoiled tomorrow slaw, and i cant wait to find whats causing the problem then,i will order a new tank and lines before i proceed.....

i am going to take a chance with carb but if problem persists new carbie here also

DC: my man don't even both with the old 813 carb you have now..I am sure it is junk...possiable worn internals
worn throttle shaft holes...worn accl ball.. weak spring......Just for get it..Use a 688 stock carb with all new lines
klunker & new fuel tank....should solve your fuel problem..When you get your new 813 carb....silacone
the hole in the back..let set up and install the carb....There your back to running again......
I say your going to be taking that old 813 carb back off again ..and you will be flusted all over again.....
DC Man I am trying to help you here.......Slawhammer

slaw yes i know and apriciated.

i suppose i would be better off to get a new carb while im at it....

so you think the bubbles coming from the leaking tank seal may not be the root cause?

DC: your tank my be fine ..I have no clue on that...They can get a pin hole in tham..
But your fuel cap is vented....so you may look into a better grommet system for the fuel lines...
I have used this proudct very well no issue's..Here's the link........................some thing to think about..better than zenoh grommet
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXFU79&P=7
Again trying to help out your problem......replace the lines & klunker....Slawhammer

a tank that lets in air is not going to affect the running...they're vented after all to allow air in anyway....if you're getting bubbles in thr top ball in the carb then it's probably the carb...as slaw says i think it's been your carb from the get go after seeing the video you posted...i did say back then that it was doing exactly as my buggered 813 did. i fear you have stripped down your engine unnessesarily as the carb was the issue all along and helicoils can be done with the engine in one piece. And i should have thought about it yesterday cos DDM deal of the day was 813's for 28bucks

slaw yes im defo going to change lines & clunker...

moo/slaw here is the thing....

the line is drawing bubbles from the tank then to carb,i dont think its the carb at all (but i may be wrong) i cant understand where the bubbles are coming from, but now as you lads told me i think also i better change the lines and clunker/seal.....

the engine strip moo was kinda routine/curiousity really more than anything,i wanted to check it from head to toe, engine is like new inside as i use fg filter & outerwears prefilter..

its a complicated thing and i want to avoid spending on another carb if possible,i wouldnt bother even using stock carb on cad engine as it needs 813 for its porting and flow

DC: the walbro 771 carb has the same internals for fuel flow as the 813..just no pump..
and I thought you did say air bubbles from the tank...That there says a line pin hole...
but the klunker could be clogged a bit forcing a suck action from the attached line at the barb connection...
For now DC go with the stock carb..& rest of new stuff..too see if you get this sorted out....
All just my opinion...Slawhammer

slaw i get you and i have checked them all and they seem fine, now i think to install a new tank and lines and to hell with it i may aswell get a new 813 as im at it,if there is nothing wrong with my own least i will have a spare......

i dont have any 711 if i had i would prob use one.

hows things with your self slaw other than that?

UPDATE:

beetle sorted finally,up and running perfect.got cylinder helicoiled in a local garage today for 20euro,great job its better than day one now, good to have pipe back on nice and secure......

also found out FUELING problem, the tank seal was faulty and leaking air in system, something like this can be so hard to find and diagnose and the problem is other parts can often by blamed by mistake then in return.......its a process of illemination with these things... job sorted,

THANK GOD i didnt have to buy a carb,my 813 is perfect........i had her running like a dream this evening............so much stripping and rebuilding finally paid off for me again....

i will hopefully get a nice video up tomorrow. now to instal a pico unit few more questions i may have for slawhammer.

i went through that entire website listing for plugs , the two plugs you have pictured are exactly the same except one is longer and the other is shorter , i have a bunch of the short ones in the pic that i got from DDM on the special page they had long time ago , they are the pretty standard plug for all round usage, i havnt used the long type in the pic but i would bet that it will perform better than the short plug with its increased ceramic length could be better at spreading the heat away from the plug with its length this would be a better alternative apart from going to the same long length in the irridium range but i would not use irridium again man they foul up way too fast and for the price of them irridium its not worth it . I would definatley go ahead and buy those long plugs in the pic and give them a go they cant be that much worse than the short plug.

hey in those other pics of the beetle there at your house , man you have quite some awesome view there , spot any ufo's with that amazing sky view ?

the short plugs are a lot better! more relibale i think.....

i was curious to see if anybody else had any experiences with them.
