Default Vertigo Performance Hex Drive Bell/Pinion (HPI Baja 5B/5T)

(NO MORE BROKEN BOLTS)

(in fact no more bolts at all)
VPP1652-17 AVAILABLE NOW.

Now Available
Vertigo Performance Hex Drive (HD) Clutch Bell and Pinion
- Steel vented clutch bell
- 7mm hex shaft
- Custom machined 17T hardened steel pinion gear
- 6mm Locking nut. (The nut is self tightening thanks to the rotation of the shaft)
- When pinion is taken off the bell cannot fall back into clutch covers out of reach which causes the possibility of incorrect installation of stock bell/pinion design.
- Completely eliminates bolts that can break.
- Prevents any wobbling between the pinion and bell which is common with the stock design of keyed bell/pinion

Contact your favourite hobby store for availability.

Will this bell work with the TR or Integys setup?

Not at all. We design our products for the majority of the consumer base who own stock style carriers and covers. I have never blown a clutch bearing and don't really know if it is as common as the people making the upgraded parts are claiming.

not talking clutch bearings, but good point so a none rubber sealed bearing will not matter all that much?

Talking about the setup you were positivitly talking about in the other thread. (TR and Integy)

I can't say about the bearing.. I think rubber sealed are better for an open or closed carrier based on the amount of dust that gets to it on a Baja. I wonder if Rubber retains heat? Thus adding to an issue that some have had..

The other thread all I was saying is one company enlarges the shaft of a steel bell and a steel pinion. Another company makes a steel bell and a steel pinion with a larger shaft. Is one really better than the other if they both used hardened steel for the pinion?

I hope I didn't miss your question.

LOL!!

I wouldn't buy either because I am not a fan of the slotted design this is why we went with the hex. If you are set on a TR or an Integy and myself not seeing either would suggest the least expensive route unless someone can give you a valid reason otherwise. There is a lot of protectionism and propoganda going on right now which needs to be ignored (IMHO)
if you can maybe go see Wes at RCPitstop if you are on the lower mainland and see if he has the Integy one in stock to look at.

I was mentioning the bearing because they have a larger bearing. I am not convinced a larger bearing is necessary and percentage wise how many have had issues with the stock bearing size.
Some have had issues, maybe it is the bell pinion design causing the issue, maybe it is lack of bearing maintenance, maybe it is the clutch cover being used overheats or maybe some have never had a problem and purchased the upgrade based on others who also may or may not have had issues but did upgrade.

Nobody should be telling you what to buy, all we can do is suggest. We went hex for a reason to get away from the slot and bolt. (Bolts which I have broken)

I am off now, I hope I haven't confused you, that last thing I want to do is sound like Campbell or James LOL!!

PS, last time I talked to Wes, he had nothing good to say about your business.

I don't think we need to talk about business relationships in the forum. Let's stick to the product please.

how many of us are still single because of our hobby LOL , hmm so i guess im not the only one still single because of this hobby lol , tell me this then would you rather spend $1500 plus on rc upgrade parts or a shiny diamond ring that does nothing on a finger for your girlfriend . My mate was always getting girlfriends dumping ALL his MONEY on her and it never made her happy instead he had fights everyday with her , stress , and then got dumped , . This is what i do with my weekends now all the time, Id rather spend $2500 on rc upgrade parts & smoke highly expensive cuban cigars while i drive my large scale 5B's this is what i do every weekend no joke , now thats living life lol .

I recommend either TR or Vertigo. Do to pass experiences I can not recommend Integy. I have the TR system with over 4 gallons with out any problems but I all so want to say Vertigo makes quality products. If you add up the Vertigo parts that the TR comes with you will spend close to the same amount of money.

Not to get off topic,
It is ok Foxy, Wes was a partner in the company at one time and was unable to continue due to the popularity of his business and the knowledge he brings to his area.

Now back to regular programming.

Well that looks good and I have to agree that the larger bearings do nothing!
I hope that the homework was done on that hex fit and hardness of the steels cause that is the area that takes a tremendous amount of torque and abuse.
I likey though

So far so good!! I have a pretty well modded out cy 27 and run hard on a private track here in eastern PA. and that clutch set up works great...and no broken pinion bolts to worry about.. also the clutch bell itself extends ALL the way out to the first bearing, the stock set up only catches a little of the first bearing and the pinion makes up the rest...by the way where do you run in Erie?[>:]

The bell protruding all the way through keeps everthing true and aligned. Once the pinion is tightened onto the bell it really can't move. This method isn't new, other 5th scales have had it for years, I am very surprised HPI didn't do this and even more surprised it took us 2 years to do it

its a very solid design, and I think the drive train on these screamers is going to last longer with it!! when do you think replacement gears will be available?...or ratio changes?...keep up the good work!!

We have no eta on gears, we are working on it though.. Try to decide what tooth to make first.

make a 20 pinion to 54 spur for the 5b and make your own 20t to plastic 54 spur for this new bell you made man , i have to spend $84 bux on the radical gear set thats in steel and for what its too heavy for drag racing
