Well hey guys!
Ok, so let me get this out before I get into things........
Brice Arnold....I have to give a shout to you first off for the amazing work on the tracks. Beautiful, stunning work. You inspired me. Big time. We have been dancing around the CNC machine at work for some time due to communication issues and lack of knowledge. Well, as of this week, I am solely responsible for its programming and operation. Got everything up and running and now I am running a fully functional machine. WHAT A DREAM!!!! I should say what a dream come true. I dreamed a differential housing, and then, I MADE IT! No more designing simple because I have to make it by hand. Wow...I'm so happy right now. Anyway.
So, I made the support housing for the differentials. After talking with a few people, i have decided to try to use the diffs out of a T-Maxx. Kind of small, I know. But, the ones I chose were from the 3.3, with hardened steel gears, and I will also be purchasing the alloy upgrade diff case as well.Along with the framework, I believe this should hold together. While there will be a lot of force, it should not be extreme. This truck was never supposed to go much over 15mph, and certainly will not be used for bashing. More as a.......showcase project.
Hard part now is that I want to go through and remachine the a-arms as well.....ah why not. Take what? 2 hours tops? Sounds like a plan to me!

That's looking good now, mate...nice job! I'll bet you won't be able to keep away now...soon the whole set up will be a CNC billet machine!!
Have you seen the stuff frankkind is making in the 1/4 scale site? Just amazing

Hehe, Mudgy, you kinda said what I'm feeling. I already will be replacing the a-arms for sure now, along with new a-arm supports. I will still be keeping the extruded aluminum chassis, but I have drawn up the supports and mounts as one piece for the arms. Makes the whole project seem a lot easier. With no off the shelf parts needed for a while now, I should be making some decent progress over the next few weeks.
One concern is I have only learned enough to do 2D machining, have a few parts in mind that require a bit of 3D, and while I know the machine can do it....I have no idea where to start, so for now, it'll be bits and pieces here and there. Either way, I plan to get the suspension upgraded and driveline finished. Many more updates to follow, so stay tuned.

Amazing stuff but they'll never get driven he reckons.
Don't see the point in that myself.

Ok, so I am finding I need diff cups....badly. The ofna diff seems perfect for my app since there is the option for upgrades. Question. I have found both a spider gear and a planetary gear setup. Which should I go with, in your opinion?
EDIT: Yeah, so, nevermind. I'm retarded. I found the outdrive cups for the diff i have for 8 bucks a pair. All set now.

So, I find myself here, at work....on a saturday. Why? Why not.....got parts to make! Re-making my a-arms and suspension mounts. Few pics I took with my camera phone while I wait on the machine to do it's thing.
Pic 1. Handy dandy big mama saw
Pic 2. Mill I used to do everything on
Pic 3. My new baby, DynaMechtronics DM4800 CNC
Pic 4. First op of new a-arms

Looking at those photos there's no question why you're there.
That's one awesome workshop you've got access to.
I'd be making the most of it too.

Well this saturday was productive. Took a little longer than I planned as I broke one of my tools in the machine, so I had to slow everything down to use another. Got the a-arms completed, and mounted up a set to the spindles to test my new hinge pin connection. Previously I was just going to use shoulder bolts, but they didn't provide the sable link i wanted so I spun up some pins that are now riding on bushings inside the spindle arm. Everything moves very smooth and free now....very happy.
After I took these pics I was noticing that the difference in machining on the original (hand milled) versions compared to the new CNC ones aren't that bad......kinda makes me proud. But the new ones are way more accurate and much prettier. I will be making new frame mounts for the a-arms starting tomorrow, so the next update should be a completed rear suspension......slightly modified new rear suspension. I am moving some components, things will get stronger, more streamline, and hopefully better performing. On to the pics:
Couple of pics showing new next to the old........old one doesn't have the "wings".
