Default Baja 5bss clutch gear bolt

Has anyone had trouble with the clutch gear bolt breaking? I atuclly told my son when we built it that this was a weak point and sure enough after a month of running it sheared off.
Are guys drilling out and using bigger stronger ones or is there an aftermarket clutch bell available with a bigger bolt mounting hole ??
Thanks for any info !!! SK.

Some people are using the following 12.9 grade bolt below but I know some drill and tap for an M5 bolt. Or you could get the Turtle Racing clutch system which comes with a bell and M6 bolt (and gear plate and carrier, etc) which upgrades the entire system but the stock pinions and bells are not compatible so you have to use the Turtle Racing ones but it is a heavy duty system.

You can also use Vertigo Hex drive that eliminates the bolt all together.

Part of the problem as mentioned is the plastic carrier, you can opt for the optional HPI aluminium carrier or a cover such as

These options are the least expensive correction for the issue you are having.

Johnnysplits, I think someone must have moved the thread and simply neglected to remove some of the posts.

Clayton,

Is there any issue with using your clutch bell/pinion set up and your enclosed carrier?

I have your clutch bell set up and it didn't work with the DDM alloy carrier. The front of the bell rubbed on the inside of the carrier.

BTW, thanks for the T shirt you sent me with my order a few weeks ago.

Wicked,

There are no issues at all..

All our products work with our products and also work with any product designed with the stock tolerances..

The ADA designed cover was made with very tight tolerances to allow it to be completely enclosed. In doing so it doesn't work with our bell which was designed previous and was designed with a deeper profile for air movement and to allow the clutch dust to move away from the clutch.

Glad you like the shirt

OK great.

Right now I just have the stock plastic carrier back on. So I will be picking up your carrier soon.

skboatman,

It sure will, our clutch bells will work with any carrier.. It is only the one line of covers that are different.. ADA/TGN/DDM and if anyone still has a PowerSlideRacing one on their car as these are all the same.

i bought this new setup and its all installed in my crazy 5b but still waiting for decent weather time to test it out , but im sure it will be good . but i have been using the 12.9 grade bolt for ages with no snapping at all but maybe some slight bolt bending but not snapping ever when using the 12.9 grade bolt

hey vertigo guys just out of curiosity what grade steel are you using to make the new clutchbell out of ? are you making the entire clutchbell from 12.9 grade steel aswell or not ?

This is not good, you know what "Laust" means in norwegian where i come from, Vertigo Performance? It means loose or wiggly

I am sure this is a good -and not wiggly- product Looks very solid.

SPL,

Grades such as 10.9 and 12.9 are used when describing a bolts integrity, these numbers aren't used in describing a piece of steel such as we would use for a clutch bell.
Although it is important to know what kind of bolt you are putting in your car grades of steel being revealed for the RC application is mostly a marketing strategy than a necessity.

I cannot release information pertaining to the steel we use, we prefer to keep some information confidential. I believe that after 9 years in business we are able to market our products based on our reputation of producing reliable products not to mention we don't need to baffle the consumer with numbers the majority don't understand

Lars, LOL!!

The word Laust came from the name Lausten.. This is the last name of the gentleman who we partnered with to design our clutch cover.
