HPI Maverick Blackout MT questions

<div style="text-align: left"> Hey guys!)
Recently i got an HPI Maverick Blackout MT,haven't ran even one tank yet,but i tried out the controls. And i was very upset at one point..The throttle servo. Here is my problem:

When you turn on the transmitter and the reciever, everything is working as it should. The steering servos are working
fine, the throttle servo is also working normal.Cheked the failsafe-everything ok.But after a couple of minutes throttle
servo starts to shake and vibrate. It moves on it's own, without commands from the transmitter, but not much, just that little
to cause vibration.Though it still can recieve transmitter commands, but not as it should. While its moving from transmitter
commands,it still shakes, and the commands are not precise, plus if you try to hold it in one position,it changes it after a
few seconds. So there is no way you can control throttle or brakes properly.
Besides all that, when the throttle servo malfunctions,it starts to overheat pretty fast. After 1 minute of shaking, the
metal sides already become clearly hot.Another minute-i can barely touch the servo. So if i don't turn it off in about five
minutes,it'll probably burn.
Tried this with the battery in the reciever about half charged, also tried with the full battery. The transmitter was
always fully charged,so the batteries don't have anything to do with this issue.

Please, can anyone suggest what to do?My current opinion-return that servo on warranty, but i'l probably have to wait for it pretty long,so i'll go just buy a replace for this one.

Thanks in advance)

RE: HPI Maverick Blackout MT questions

The stock electronics in that are junk unfortunately. You should go ahead and replace the throttle servo with a reputable one and then plan on replacing your steering servos shortly also because they will be dying soon.

Thanks for such a quick reply)</p>

About that steering-it's strange in some way too.</p>

When i turn right,it seems to have a lot of power, the wheels turn pretty fast. But when i turn left,it loses power at the end,so it goes pretty confident all the way to the left, but then loses speed, waits for about one fifth of a sec and then turns left completely.Thats also the crap servos...?
Damn,it's such a good truck,i've seen so many good opinions about it,but yeah,a couple of times i also saw that first you should change throttle servo..That's bad(What would you recommend in replace? That servo was 9kg</p>

RE: HPI Maverick Blackout MT questions

People,i'm looking for a new servo now,can anyone tell me what are the best brands? And what about the prices?I need a good, reliable, fast 9kg servo.I found the stock servo on ebay-26 pounds. So i think a good servo is around 40-50 pounds, right?

RE: HPI Maverick Blackout MT questions

I've never heard of these, but they look awfully like a Redcat??? Why would HPI have their name associated with a rebrand? The horror![sm=omg_smile.gif]

Skvora 03-01-2011 03:38 AM

RE: HPI Maverick Blackout MT questions

Come on,that's not the topic)But well..there are even a few rebrands of this model, all very similar, with a few diferent parts. But i'ts proven an awsome truck, except of course the electronics..
p.s.Oh,about the redcat,yes,redcat rampage))

RE: HPI Maverick Blackout MT questions

Er, the brushless system in the Savage Flux 6s is a rebranded MMM combo, the brushless system in the Flux 4s is a rebranded MM-pro system, the brushless system in the Bullet Flux (which is itself a rebranded Hotbodies GT10) is a rebranded Hobbywing 35a/9t brushless system and the E-savage (brushed) is a rebranded Hotbodies E-zilla. The Maverick 1/10th range of models are rebranded chinese HSP/HP cars... I could go on, But you get the picture.

The point is these cars are sold under HPI's cheapy range name, Maverick. They are generally rebranded cars sold at a price that doesn't have to account for all the design and R&D work that HPI usually do. Hence they are cheaper, but usually lesser quality.

RE: HPI Maverick Blackout MT questions

Yeah,I get all that. But could somebody help me with the servos?)You seem smart guys in this question)

RE: HPI Maverick Blackout MT questions

For Steering i would got with a hitec 5755, most people use dual Servo setup on the Redcat/HSP/Himoto/Maverick MonsterTruck model because the vehicle is a little on the heavy side especially the wheels/tires. The 5755 is a digital servo and very reliable/strong. Are you planning to keep using the Stock Radio? Personally I would buy a good radio and replace the stock one, especially one that supports Digital Servos.

RE: HPI Maverick Blackout MT questions

Thanks very much for the steering, and what about the throttle/brakes servo?</p>

I dunno about the radio yet..the stock radio is a 2.4Ghz system.Maverick MRX-24 reciever with failsafe,and a Maverick MTX-24 transmitter.</p>

RE: HPI Maverick Blackout MT questions

I searched and found this very expensive thing for the throttle.</p>

An Hpi HB DSJ-1SS high speed servo. From the description:</p>

"DSJ-1SS is fastest with an amazing transit time of 0.06 seconds per centimeter of movement with a strength of 13kg per cm!"</p>

That looks like a high-end servo,costs 149 pounds..alot..whats your opinion?</p>

RE: HPI Maverick Blackout MT questions

Damn..just checked the receiver and found that some little thing inside has been burnt..what the hell?So if the receiver is broken, this could result in such servo behavior?Need a new receiver)

RE: HPI Maverick Blackout MT questions

I see, so the Maverick comes with HPI's 2.4ghz 2 channel Radio. This radio is not bad but it doesnt let you use a real failsafe.
This is a real failsafe
http://www.davesmotors.com/s.nl/c.88...t.A/id.7070/.f
Here is a compatibility chart
http://www.killerrc.com/faq/comparison_chart.php

You may be asking your self "Man i'm starting to spend more and more money on this thing, do I have to?". Trust me you WANT a FailSafe from Killer Bee. It is fantastic. For example if the Throttle servo dies at full throttle or lets say you go into some bushes/brush at full throttle and something gets jammed in the throttle linkages all you need to do is press the 3rd channel button on your Radio and it will Turn off the Engine. It pretty much prevents the Ignition coil from generating a spark on the Spark Plug. It will not only save your vehicle but also prevent damage to other people and/or their property. Trust this is not for "Just in case it happens"... It WILL happen, a time will come for when you need to shut off the engine in an emergency. I think everyone in 1/5th has had that moment.

Also for throttle i would go with a Hitec HS-5645 Digital servo.
You should have - problems with the 2 servos I mentioned. Good speed/power combination.
http://www.davesmotors.com/s.nl/c.88...t.A/id.6594/.f

NOTE: I just saw your recent post. Yes that can cause the servo to behave like that. Personally. I would buy the new servos if you dont want to buy new servos then you have to get the failsafe. It irresponsible of someone to operate a 1/5th scale without a failsafe unless it is on their own personal property. Your truck will drive off into oblivion when that throttle servo dies at full throttle.

Skvora 03-01-2011 06:49 AM

RE: HPI Maverick Blackout MT questions

I clearly understand the importance of the failsafe, certainly will install it)for now i just have to get it work properly, then I'll get on to other parts)

I've gor one question left.</p>

If I get another radio system,do I have to stick with the 2.4 Ghz,is it best? And are there best choices or am I free to choose myself?</p>

Some Say FM is good but I like 2.4Ghz.. it is reliable, don't have to worry about Crystals. Stick with 2.4

RE: HPI Maverick Blackout MT questions

A little cheaper, but still good is 645mg servo. By they way, just installed the Killer Bee V1 in my Baja. It went on without a glitch (no pun intended). I had switched to an Airtronics radio a couple of weeks back. It also kills the motor if you turn off the transmitter..cool.

RE: HPI Maverick Blackout MT questions

for the servos i run the hitec 805bb 333 oz-in of torque for steering servo and the hitec 645mg 120 oz-in of torque for throttle servo non digital. price is under $40.00 as for the radio stay with the 2.4 and 3 channel so you can use the kill switch. Airtronics and futaba make good radios for around $100.00 bucks

RE: HPI Maverick Blackout MT questions

Thanks for the advises.</p>

I think I'll take the Hitec HS-5645MG and HS-5755MG servos. Now about the radio system. You said that airtronics and futaba are good..but I couldn't really find the right choice.Plus, the requirements "Futaba J Hitec, JR, or Airtronics-Z radio system "  on the page of  Hitec HS-5645MG </p>

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Hitec-HS-5645MG-Digital-High-Torque-Metal-Gear-Servo-/230516364473?pt=Radio_Control_Parts_Accessories&am p;hash=item35abd894b9</p>

got me completely confused.I thought it would work with any 2.4GHz digital proportional system..was I wrong?</p>

So as before,I need an exact product to go with)Help me plz)))</p>

RE: HPI Maverick Blackout MT questions

I have a Futaba 3PM 2.4ghz. Great radio, it also has ABS support, you can switch between digital/analog servo mode, and it has a 3rd channel.

I just have to note how funny the chassis flex is with that Turnigy servo. I wonder how reliable the servo is.

bbuzzard 03-01-2011 06:15 PM

RE: HPI Maverick Blackout MT questions

There was no chassis flex, man...that was the tires turning that made it move...you need to try to do better and run something for a while before you doubt me, hater...LOL!!
