Engine alloy parts
 

Looking at replacing stock plastic engine mount 6264 and 7039/1 with alloy parts.

I already bought 7039 but I must have knackered it as when I rotate the axle there is a lot of friction. I can no longer remove the bearings, they're stuck.

is it possible I damage the shape of the part? Should the bearings pop in easily enough on the alloy parts? For the plastic they're quite easy. I used the same bearings I did with the plastic part.

What part numbers are the alloy versions?

fg alloy parts with bearing cutouts are machined correctly for an interference fit, you have to heat the alloy part first to expand it, then the bearing will push in easily...you can use a heat gun ,hair dryer or stick it in the oven for a few minutes

x2 on mooman's assesment, I will add for the sake of understanding, that the resistence you are feeling is probably the bearing binding as it is probably cocked/askew in the bearing pocket.

He is also right about heating it up with a heat gun. At that point the bearing should be able to come back out or in some cases pop in completely, depending on how hot you get it and how much the part will expand.

You can also try to find a socket with the same diameter as the bearing and use it as a drift to drive the bearing in completely with a hammer by laying the part flat down on a sturdy table/bench. However that is risky if the bearing is cocked enough to damage the pocket or bearing itself.

Once you get the bearing straight and true in the pocket you will probably find the resistence gone!

I did heat the part up, and put the bearings in the freezer. I can't removed the bearings, but do you think the part is still ok?

Take it to a workshop, will they have tool to remove the three bearings?

How hot did you get it? Do you have a temp gauge?

What did you use to heat it up? Hair dryer or heat gun?

can't remember did it years ago, just been sitting in the cupboard, went back to stock plastic part. pretty annoyed as that allow part wasn't cheap.
