Introducing the RAMTech-RC Kill Switch
 
Alright folks, using my monthly adspace. There is a new Kill Switch on the market. I have been working with a Chinese Engineer to make a Generic kill switch for 2 cycle engines. We are on version #3 already for this latest shipment. After several months of trials, I have found a happy medium between cost and functions.


RAMTech-RC Generic Kill Switch


** This kill switch can be used on any 2 cycle engine to shut down the coil using etiher a 2 channel or 3 channel radio.


** 2 channel radios can remotely kill the engine by turning off the transmitter.


** 3 channel radios can remotely kill the engine by the 3rd channel button.


** Low voltage cut-off is 3.0 Volts to kill the engine.


** Range glitches will kill the engine.


Cost is $24.99. But this weekend only, I will give early adopters a 25% discount for trying it out and letting us know what radio you are using.


I have not done any type of user manual, nor will I be doing technical seminars on how to set up your 3rd channel radio. Its a very basic kill switch, so common sense is all that is really needed. And good radio gear of course.

I like the news! Reasonably priced too. But cut off on 3 volts, isn't that a bit low? No (or very few) radiosystems will work properly under 5 or maybe 4,5 volts, at this point the servos will be very slow in large scale cars with high drainage with big servos so i think the cut off should be set to around 5 volts instead.

If you see your servos slowing down, bring it in and recharge. Depending on the load at the moment it will shut off somewhere around 3.0 to 3.5 volts. If you are just idling, it will shut off at 3.0 for safety.

Yes, all Futabas will work well. I prefer the Futaba 3pm-x myself.

Not to say that you are wrong, you most certainly aren't, as cutoff is always a personal choice, however, it seems that along with many other 'ratings', the lipo cutoff 'rating' has been getting inflated and more inflated as the years go by (just like torque ratings on servos, amp rating on ESCs and batteries, etc).

When lipo first appeared, we were cutting them off at 2.8/cell without any issue whatsoever. The point of no return is still significantly lower than that (2.4 in actuality if I remember correctly), so 3 is well on the safe side. People using 3.2+ in MY OWN personal opinion, are wasting their runtime, for negligible added longevity of the battery. Just my 2c, and my way of saying....meh, don't worry about it! :)

Disclaimer: This is assuming that you ALWAYS balance charge and your cells are well matched. Old packs with already mismatched cells are MUCH safer with higher cutoffs.

We are finding the cutoff to be around 4 to 4.5 volts when running around bashing. I need to add a digital voltmeter to the test truck and shoot a video of it.
