Hitec 1/4 scale servos

Got a new FG Stadium Truck, running it in today, having a bit of fun, after about 45 minutes it starts going crazy. I killswitched it, had a look, and could smell burning. Get body off, and the HiTec Steering servo is smoking, with a hole in the base, so needless to say, I turned power off. Its a HiTec5475MG servo, from Kevs Racing Bits in the UK. Is this good enough to do the job, and would it be under warranty, ie would the LHS be honour bound to replace it? I've NEVER had a servo burn out on me, and I've had quite a few cars.......... Thanks in advance for any help. And is there any better I should be looking at? TX/RX is a Spektrum DSM, and yes, it was set up right.........[X(]

Thats the same servo's we use in all our vehicles, every once in awhile you get one that goes bad right away. Hitec is really good about warranties.

RE: Hitec 1/4 scale servos

i think the 5475 are great servos for the price - loads of torque (18kg),digi & metal geared......they do tend to burn out quick though when the end points aint set up correctly.

RE: Hitec 1/4 scale servos

Thats the thing. I set up my end points with the Spektrum DSM system I just got, and all seemed ok, and wasn't even whacking it to full travel, due to end point setting (took me ages to do all that....)[>:]. Thats what got me angry!

try a hitech 1/4 805 BB I have had no problems and use them on all my vehicles.

NO Hasseling with digital end sets :D only $50-60 almost anywhere....drop the servo in and go[sm=thumbup.gif]

this is what made my mind up in the end to get mpex servos, i know its only now & then people have these problems (mainly with hitec servos) but id be ubberly pi$$ed off if it happened to me during a dayout! :(

but as someone said, hitec have very good CS, either give kev a ring (im sure he will sort it for you) or contact hitec direct :)

Will this be suitable for a single servo setup in a FG?

hitec & multiplex are the same company or linked in someway - its been rumoured that there aint much diference between the mpex rhino & hitec 5745

edit: barbosa - hitec/multiplex have direct support on rcu it might be worth posting in there for quicker response

Isn't that just for the radio gear, or am I reading it wrong?

*Ignore this...just found what I wanted.*
Thanks.

Should I answer that, or is it meant to be a leg-pulling exercise?:)

RE: Hitec 1/4 scale servos

you should keep your end point adjustments for the steering between 90-95%. If this is done correctly the servo should last forever. Usually if the Hitec is bad, it goes immediately after it is powered on.

When I bought my MT-5 I listened to all of the know-it-all noobs and thumbed my nose at the 805 and adopted the 5745; Huge MISTAKE!
I believe that no ammount of customer service will ever make up for a garbage product. The 5745 IMO falls squarely in that catagory. I have cooked 5 count 'em 5745s with two weeks of downtime minimum from sending back to hitec and recieving them. I switched to the 805 in both vehicles and no problem since. Say all you want but; digital steering and large scale off-road just don't go together. On-road and parking lot bashing may be ok but the dirt is tough on radio gear. My first choice would be the Tonewega/oddified second the 805 and third the Tower quarter scale. If I lived in England I would run tonewega/oddie's in everything but until that happens the 805 it is.

Your calling one the most popular servos used across the world in the largest races "garbage". I have tried everything out there and for a true driver that needs fast strong steering the 5745 is the only way to go. Sure they will fail from time to time but normally once you get the first run done and it lived they will go a long time. I would guess 10% fail and 8% of those are due to setup errors. I have well over a hundred off these out there between team driver cars, R&D cars and my personal collection it is the only way to go. The 805 is way too inconsistent, the newer small case hitec titaniums have good specs but fail fast. The Tonewga is not practical for most people. And the rhino which is from MPX/hitec is almost the same and still fails at the same rate. I wish there was a better option but there isn't right know.

RE: Hitec 1/4 scale servos

Sorry to bust you chops but the 805 is both faster and more powerful. I agree the 5745 is more accurate but that is where it ends.
Directly from Hitec's website catalog pdf:

HS-5745MG 249.6oz and .15 sec @60 degrees
HS-805BB 343.01oz and .14 sec @60 degrees

Both values at 6.0 volts.
Look here:[link=http://Linko]http://www.hitecrcd.com/HitecCatalog.pdf[/link] (see page 11 of 28)

My rc has nothing to do with being popular and my statements are based on the facts as I have interpreted them and my experiences in large scale. I assume due to your USA address when you say racing you are talking about on-road in which I agree the accuracy is more important than longevity and value.

:D:D:D Glad to hear someone agrees with me!!

For offroad purposes there is no need for an expensive digitally set 1/4 scale servo......IMO

I can buy 2 805 BBs for the price of 1 - 5745

RE: Hitec 1/4 scale servos

Hi All,
I had check that and I'll choose multiplex Jumbo / Speed Digi servo for my MT-5 & F1 ( steering & throttle / brake ).
Cause I have found the multiplex was MADE IN GERMANY (make on the servo bottom ) on early products.
So pls found the early servo as well, if possible.
( now, the new multiplex was made by Hitec included Rhino servo, its same as 5745 )

Choose - Multiplex : Jumbo MCV2 & Power Digi / Power Speed Digi servos.

Hope can help everybody.

Francis

RE: Hitec 1/4 scale servos

They can say whatever numbers they want but if the wheels aren't pointed the correct direction at the correct time the stats don't matter. And yes you do really see it in the on-road. I regularly have people with other servos try my car and say "man does that thing turn nice" Then I hand them a 5745 and they never go back. Yes off-road most people will never feel the difference but the purpose of my original post was in reply to the "garbage" opinion of yours.

Well I guess someone has to keep Hitec's digital servo division afloat; Better you than me I guess. I tell ya what I will send you my most recently barbequed 5745 you send it back and send me an 805 that your customers have complained about. Deal[8D]

RE: Hitec 1/4 scale servos

I agree with chowderhead.....the 5745's are crap....I have fried 4 of them, and yes they were set up correctly.
I have Futaba and JR servos that are over 10 years old and still work fine....the most I can get from a Hitec is about 5 hours!
Hitec need their ass kicked.
