Anyone do electric 1/5 scale?

Hey, just wondering if anyone is doing anything large scale with electrics. I am in the process of building a 1/5 Skyline on road car using 14.4v and a drill motor. Top speed will only be in the 30mph range, but with a 2 speed trans it should go 50.
I'm using a Nikko Skyline as a starting point. Well, wheels/tires and body at least. You can get the bodies from Nikko for $26.00.

H.A.R.M. has a brushless 1/5th scale. There is also a photo of it in the RCX review.

Some info on the electric off road HARM

HARM sedan and Wild Tangent half way down this page
http://www.molzermoweryracing.com/product_news.htm

Speed is similar to stock off road vehicles, and stock sedan with mod motor punch. Run time 20 - 35 minutes.

FG has not released there version yet.

Excellent, thanks.

I guess I go from one extreme to the other... 1/28 scale during the cold months so I can run in my basement, and now the 1/5 scale during summer. I have been only been back into the hobby for a year after 12 without a car, and suddenly the large scale caught my attention. I have always ran electrics, so for now I think I'll stay with them.

I'm not quite ready to make the jump to a gasser yet, but I have a feeling there's one in my near future.

I'm looking forward to getting one sometime. I think it would be fun in the winter in like the local gym, or building.

Those big MCD cars are WICKED! I've been looking at them for quite some time. It's really too bad that no one seems to have them, or any real info about them. The new breed of MCD cars seems to be pretty few and far between.

No, they're Gas (though, MCD's are shipped without engines, so an electric conversion should be pretty simple).

I think the only way to really do 1/6 - 1/5 scale Electric would be to utilize the new Lithium Battery technology. There are plenty of brushless motors out there that will put out power equal, or greater than a gas engine...........the problem is cost.

The Brusless motor, speed control, and batteries could put you out over $1000 if you wanted to have the power, speed and run-time of a Gas car.

I myself have been toying with the idea of doing a 1/6 scale electric 4x4 buggy for quite some time. I have most of the planning done, now it's just gathering the money and parts.

Electric is nice because of the lack of noise, smell, and clean up.

This car may be a good starter car for a project like this.

Not really. It's a trashy Nikko equivilant. The nice thing about the large scales, are that they have an aluminum chassis, instead of using crappy plastic, for everything. Not only that, but the diffs will be trashed in nothing. In fact, it'd be a large paperweight if you break something

bribeguy : The MCD vehicles are top of the line. The 4 wheel drive is an amazing set-up. I have a Baja 1000 & it's the most awesome vehicle I've ever owned & drove. I've been an rc nut since 1984, so that says a bunch about them right there. If your looking for anything MCD [link]http://www.largescalerc.com[/link]. This is the place to go & find out whatever you are looking for, in the MCD line of vehicles. A brushless conversion would be cool. There is quite a bit of development on this going on right now. Can't wait to see where it leads !
