Question Regarding Ease of use compared to Nitro
Are 2stroke gas engines easier to tune and run that nitro engines? I have some experience with nitro engines and it seems like i'm tuning them more often than i am enjoying them. Not to mention constant air leaks and running hot. I'm no expert, so a good portion of the problems are my fault, but it seems like the large scale forum is devoid of the all the tuning questions that there are in the nitro engine forum. Plus, i'm interested in purchasing an HPI Baja 5b. So, Are gas engines easier to run than nitro?

RE: Question Regarding Ease of use compared to Nitro
Kidding? Gas is the way to go. OK OK I stand corrected. You don't need any support equipment for gas. Bring the car and some gasoline to the track. Thats all. I left my gas can at home yesterday because a full fuel tank takes forever to run out. So now I guess the car is all I need. My airplanes are pretty much all gas now. Just too easy. Just like all engines, Ya need to break them in but after that you are done! Sorry to be so short earlier[>:] 25 days without a smoke makes me testy.

ORIGINAL: lever02 Kidding? Gas is the way to go. I have no idea because i'm new to 1/5 scale so i'd like to know also. Everyone says gas is better but why? All i know is it's cheaper then nitro fuel. Run times are longer. No glow plugs No glow plug igniter Anything else? |
RE: Question Regarding Ease of use compared to Nitro
yeah my question is serious. I like fuel powered rc but nitro is such as pain. I'm hoping that Gas is easier than nitro. I know my 2cycle string trimmers last years and are easy to run. (I know some of you guys hate equating these engines to weed wacker engines. ):D

RE: Question Regarding Ease of use compared to Nitro
Yes they are way easier. They are pretty much tuned out of the box and with a small bit of tweaking they will perform like a champ every time for gallons and gallons regardless of weather conditions. If you find the plug fouls you may have to lean your gas mix to 28 to 1 or 32 to 1 and or lean your needles a bit. But once your tuned in you don’t have to touch it. They don’t run hot and they start in a couple of pulls and idle every time even if you haven’t run it in months.

RE: Question Regarding Ease of use compared to Nitro
NITRO = $30-40 a gallon for nitro, 8-12 minute run times, tuning every time you go out, checking for temps, yanking the hell out of the pull starter or rotostarter or some cases bump boxes.blah blah blah blah
GASSERS =$2.50 a gallon, prime, yank, and youre off, 45 minute run times. Nuf Said:D |
RE: Question Regarding Ease of use compared to Nitro

RE: Question Regarding Ease of use compared to Nitro
Ive been into 5th scales( both On & Off-road ) for about 12yrs now.At the time of my first purchase of an on-road 5th scaler( FG Porsche), no one in my area even saw one before. Not to mention, when I took it to my LHS, the crowd I drew was out of this world.People followed me into the store just to see what da hell it was.:D But to make a long story short, at the time I owned quite a few nitros both on & off-road. Once I really got into running the car and saw how much or should I say how less of a headache it was dealing with them. I sold all of my nitros and never looked back. Now not to bash the nitro guys, but the only thing I presently own that run on nitro is my helis !
So Delche , by all means, break that piggy bank and jooooiiiiin the club, lolololol ! ! ! Good Luck on ur first purchase ! ! ! ! BTW- I snuck out and got a roller HPI on-road just to tinker around with. sssssssssshhuussssssssss, dont tell anybody;) |

RE: Question Regarding Ease of use compared to Nitro
They are an absolute nightmare, keep pulling the starter until your hand bleed on a cold morning, then the pull start snaps, you take the pull start apart , the spring pops out and you can`t get it back in as you cut your fingers.... oh sorry hang on a minute i`m talking about nitro! Once you have a Gas/Petrol car a you will find a lot less problems.
