Chain Driven ? Pic Request

Got an XRC buggy and was thinking of replacing the spur and pinion gears with sprockets so I can use a chain insted. How would I go about this and where is the best place to take the sprockets from eg. Push bike / Quad bike.

I think this would save on spur and pinion gears if the chain drive system was covered with a decent cover. So if anyone has any pics of a chain drive system please could you post them and any info on the subject would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks

You don't have enough room to use chain drve.[:o] Chain is stronger and bigger.

Hey Psycho Post a few Images of your car for me to take a look at and I'll look through my Images of chain driven rc cars and see if I can find you some that have been converted to chain drive and I'll post them here then for you. I just want to be sure of what car you have before I post the wrong Images for you. Thanks Floyd.

[link=http://www.********.co.uk/XRC2.htm]XRC Buggy[/link]

This is the buggy I have got no cam so cant post pics. I know what you mean though would be hard to get something to fit inplace of the spur/pinion gear but Im going to somehow with some help get some kind of chan drive on there. May mean moving the engine towatds the front so the spur and pinion are futher apart. Or have it so there is a chain over some sprockets the same size of the gears now.

Open to suggestions as I really fancy modding this thing to turn it into one good bashing buggy :)

You could probably do a belt drive system, look into the system on the FG Formula 1 car, you may be able to go from there.

Good idea that way if the wheels lock or anything the belt will just slip not causing any damage to the engine. Would this be tough enough though Maybe could use some worn down gears as like pulleys. No more stones getting stuck in the teeth great idea m8 you got me thinking now.

Also take note that if you use a belt or chain you'll be reversing the direction of the spur, so you'll have to deal with that somehow.

Also, you wont damage your engine if the wheels lock up and you are using gears - you have a clutch.

ahh dam knew there would be something. Anyone know how I could counter this problem ? maybe not going to work is it never though of the spur not turning the right way

RE: Chain Driven ? Pic Request

Its more trouble than its worth probably, it would take some modification of the drivetrain or engine.

Why cant they make some decent gears for these things, High speed moving gears and they use cheap plastic that gets worn just by looking at them. Got a steel pinion but over time and that time wont be very long the steel teeth on the steel gear will just eat the plastic one up. Really need to locate a 40 tooth steel spur gear, just though a chain or belt would have been so much better but hey thats that idea gone but thanks for the advice :)

I have no experience with XRC cars, but maybe an FG, HPI, MCD, Smartech, or Technokit steel spur will work?

if nothing is availible call around and look for a gear business we get gears cut for fairly cheap .
they'll need either a gear to copy or amount of teeth and also OD , just a option

I was wondering how long this discussion was going to go before you figured out that you were reversing the direction of the drivetrain going from gears to belts or chain... LOL!!!

Hi everybody,

http://www.technokit.it/images/pictu...rcross_01B.jpg

For your problem maybe you can check with the brand which make this buggy, here is the link to this company:

http://www.technokit.it/models_supercross.html

They made a deal recently to do the basic model by some chinese companies, you have the chinese one.

May be you can access to the optional parts of the other models. I saw some topics here for the onroad version.

See you.:)

Whoz.
