1/4 Scale Gear Reduction Prototypes!!

1 Attachment(s)
Hey guys,,, Seems like it's been ages since i posted here. Anyhow as many of you may know I have been designing 11 types of 1/4 scale vehicles. But i have also been designing 3 types of gear reduction units that will work with most any 1/4 scale drive train.

Here are a few pictures of my prototypes so far.

1. 2 Speed W/reverse
2. Single speed W/reverse

3 Speed W/reverse in the works

nice work so will they be oil filled and are they like a auto gear change ?? ....i gess you will need a 4 chanel radio to change gears if manual change
i would like to build a 1/4 scale car or truck some day

I "ve seen one with the simular options but smaller 2" x 2.0"x2.5" . it fits right in your hand and bolts directly to a Zenoah motor. Plus it has a 4x 4 option.:D

I'm not quite sure yet on this open box design. I may design a sealed unit for the 2 & 3 speeds as well, And if so it then can filled with oil/gear lube, Not to mention it would keep all the elements out of the gears

Have installed any of them on a car and tested it?

If they work, i would not mind buying one!

No i have yet to test them in a car,, But i have bench tested them using a High output electric motor that runs at 40,000 rpm. and the gears held up quite well, I have yet to design the reverse for them, but i have most of the programs done and should have that all completed and ready for testing in a few weeks,,, This is just one of my 1/4 scale projects i have in the works,, I am also designing 4 types of 6061 aluminum hubs thats really taking much of my time,, If all goes well I should have the reduction unit on the market by fall. I don't get on this forum that often anymore But if you want to follow all my projects you can do so by joining my forum.

'' Bentley Marshall "" The type of gear change in my units is called, Shift-on-the-fly. And yes you will need a 4 channel radio,

#1 Gas/brakes
#2 Steering
#3 Shift
#4 Reverse

When i get all the bugs worked out it will fully adjustable, To where it can be set to auto gear change OR manual servo operated gear change

Thanks

The unit I have seen has been out for 2 yrs and you only need 3 channel to shift it. The 4x4 needs a 4 th channel.:D

Thanks guys,,,It's funny you should mention the 4x4 design. I am also working on a reduction unit that has an optional output shaft that can run to a second diff, These units are bullet proof and I think they will be the answer to all us 1/4 scale guys thats in need of various gear ratios, There are over 50 gear ratios that will work in my designs.
By the way here are the dimensions of the unit. 5 3/4''long X 4 1/2''tall X 4 1/4'' wide, weight 2 lbs

Here are a few shots of my 6061 Aluminum hubs prototypes.

BTW,,, You 1/5 scale guys may want to consider a unit as well, If you were to change your engine direction to inline with the diff it would work in most any 1/5 scale car setup,,, Just a thought guys,,, just think what the advantages would be with 3 speeds and a reverse to boot. And gear ratios that can be setup to fly over any terrain literally.
