Strictly On Road Baja..........

I pretty much modded my baja for ONROAD only since offroading really wasnt my thing, i ordered the CAT5 drop kit and installed it in the car to give it a nice LOOWWW ride, and now im just waiting on Darksoul raceing to release the super tall extreme gearing for the baja so i can have one serously fast onroad hpi baja,(and some kick ass video) the motor is a CY 29 CC serously modded by CP racing, with a RACE stuffed crank, 813 carb and DDM pipe, if u got a onroad only baja POST UP!!

Here is some pictures of my road race Baja in progress of construction, it has our prototype SkunkWorks suspension on it, and for the race this weekend, it will have some of the suspension updated, it is still using the DS Torque Monster billet engine, and some new Hostile Slicks.

Ill try to get some pics up of it complete. I have to keep it raised up with lots of suspension travel, because our "road races" are what we have dubbed BajaCross. We run on the same day and track as the 1/5 sedans and F1s, but drag some obstacles out for the Bajas. Great fun, lots of wild crashes.

hey u got any videos?

I ask this seruously and not as a joke, but have you guys ever considered an FG onroad for onroad purpuses???

PAPE, Finest has a sportline too, but he's obsessed with converting off roaders to on-road speed demons. It's his favorite pastime.

By the way, Finest, Ted doesn't need a new best friend, he has me already ;). Darksoul/Skunkworks is the coolest stuff in the hobby, imo.

PAPE! that was going to be my Q! Why buy a off road car and then try and make it into a on road car????? seriously if you prefer on road then get a on raod car! I just don't understand this:eek:

I feel so sorry for Finest, he always gets this, every time he starts a new project. What is so hard to understand about the fact he wants to make a Baja go fast? HE HAS AN FG SPORTLINE ALREADY!!! He likes to convert off road cars. Just cos you haven't seen him in this forum much, don't for one second think he doesn't know what he's doing. He has an 80mph nitro 1/8th buggy, a 77mph Jato, a 70mph plus Kyosho truggy, a 60mph plus 1/12th truggy (CRT .5), he was involved in the on-road nitro project by the user formerly known as 'serpent king', to make a nitro car go over 100mph. They finally acheived it some years ago now, with an HPI nitro RS4-2 (with some serious mods of course). He knows on-road cars go faster, but he likes to convert the off roaders! This is what he does!!

Foxy as I was writting mine you got in before me! :D

I do understand now!!!!!! But honestly not really!!!! I am like you and really prefer On road cars, Not Off road cars made into ON roads!
If speed is the answer then why not biuld a Dragcar out of it! They will (Bajas) never ever handle like a good purpose built on road car.

RE: Strictly On Road Baja..........

That's basically what he does... dragging down a huge 700ft strip. That's why he's always looking for ultra high gearing. He has no limit to how quickly he has to get up to speed (it's not a regulation 1/10th drag strip is what I mean).

RE: Strictly On Road Baja..........

yeah i dont understand it sometimes either , i have my jato that i use for onroad only , and my off roaders for off road only simple as that .

my question is whats the minimum or maximum amount of power to make your baja , because its pretty hard to keep these bajas on road , and if you get those hostile slicks tell me how grippy they are

Lunar Wolf 07-17-2008 07:12 AM

RE: Strictly On Road Baja..........

Half the fun of this hobby is wrenching and customising your RC. People have different tastes and different locations, for instance tarmacs were a bad choice for me since the only good roads are right outside peoples houses where i can't run, plenty of off-road terrain and beach sand for me to play on though. Miami might have quite different roads/terrain to play on coupled with his own personal tastes for modifiying make an on-road baja quite enjoyable for him.

I think the Baja frame has alot of potential to be a roadster, but something needs to be done about its shocks, a laydown F1 style system like the revo has would be quite awesome, looks to be plenty of room on the front and rear upper decks to do something like that, not my cut-o-tea since i spend more time offroad then on but for someone serious it'd definaly be cool and with the kind of speeds Miami likes to do it could get rid of some wind resistance.

RE: Strictly On Road Baja..........

seriously, the onroad handles like crap, thats why we all convert offroad to onroad, I have done this also, I got rid of my onroad for that reason.pics later..........

RE: Strictly On Road Baja..........

Well here is the thing guys i already HAD a FG onroad with a good motor pipe set up PLUS serouse gearing and was topping out at 64 MPH all day long with it BUT the onroad sportsline FG drove like crap, im very good with suspention set up's and i did get the car to a point it was driveable but not fun at all,i felt like i was always fighting the car to start in a str8 line, id always loose the rear end no matter what and i was going threw tires like hot cakes and those tires where not cheap,i needed 2 serouse upgrades for it one was a pipe and a adjustable rear diff, but those 2 item where jsut way to much money for me 2 wanna spend, 200 dollars for a DIFF??? and 500 for the FG/SAMBA pipe............it really turned me off to the car and i actually sold it about 2 months ago so i know u guys might say OH JUST BUY AN ONROAD well i did and i hated it:D

http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p...7/0767cbb2.jpg
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p...7/P1010295.jpg

Also on the subject on me useing offroad cars for onroad one thing people dont relize is im not useing my cars on any kind of preped surface im running my cars on normal streets and parking lots where usually traction is kinda had to get, so useing offroad cars for these things usually make things alot easier becuase of the wider and longer wheel base the baja onroad HANDLES 100% better than a FG onroad on just normal surfaces and with those spacers installed in the car now i know it will be great becuase i just cancelled out all my body roll.

also the car isnt done yet wait till u guys see the pipe ima be useing :D

Foxy thanks for the support!! ull have a PM with in the next few days once i hit 100 MPH with my new racer2 i built last mnoth

i dunno about you i dont bash under the rain , but you are right about that threaded tires are good for rain in fact you can cut threads on hostile slick like the racers do to thier slick tires.

its easy to get an on-road to handle well in ON-ROAD conditions, try getting a 5b to not "on-power push" mine dont. 28.5 w/ an 813 carb and a jetpro w/ speed gears
here's mine

So, do you guys think rc gassers will hit the 100mph mark soon? Or are they nowhere close at the moment.
