What do you think of those 2 onroad cars?
1 Attachment(s)
Hi guys
I'm considering buying a an onroad car and have narrowed my choices to 2 cars based mainly on budget, parts availability and I want a new car http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...ular_smile.gif My selections are: 1. Nutech Mustang (with aluminium upgrades) sold by EngageRC http://www.engagerc.com/servlet/the-...Mustang/Detail 2. Redcat Rampage Rally sold by DDM http://www.redcatracing.com/RC-Cars/.../Rampage-Rally http://www.davesmotors.com/s.nl/c.88...t.A/id.6165/.f Does anybody have any of them? Any weaknesses or things to watch out? Which one would you recommend and why? Not interested in FG onroad at the moment as they are above my budget and parts are too expensive.... Thanks a lot. Cheers JC |
RE: What do you think of those 2 onroad cars?
well hello
hope you choose something that gives you hours of solid fun. if it was my opinion i would go with option 1, the nutech range looks to be very tough now....and alloy upgrades seem like a great bonus, any alloy upgrades are excellent to make your onroad very robust. i have had [still have, rebuilding] a carson c5 onroad and man all i can say is WOW for 499euro awesome value.........with a few small upgrades this car is both very cheap and very very tough........i was very happy with mine, your welcome to check it out here on my thread carson onroad tested to max. i have sinse upgraded to a comp fg onroad model but i am rebuilding my carson onroad too for the girlfriend to use. it will be getting a 26cc zenoah and lots of alloy upgrades that i have laying around. best of luck man, http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f.../thumbs_up.gif |
RE: What do you think of those 2 onroad cars?
That particular on-road car from Nutech will not be in production for some months, it is still under development. Furthermore, that price is not even remotely correct. The Nutech car is 80% CNC alloy, almost the same kind of spec as an FG evo, and will likely be retailing around the $1300 to $1400 mark, which is an incredible price considering such a model from FG is around $2600. I would recommend the Nutech, it'll be the best bang for buck on road car available when it comes out, but unfortunately, as I say, that won't be for some time. If you order now, you could be waiting at least 3 months for it, as I happen to know that EngageRC has not even placed an order for this car yet. Nobody has. The spec isn't even finalised, and it DEFINITELY won't have a 26cc engine. I heard a rumour it will have a very special body when it comes out, but my lips are sealed. For now. :)
EngageRC seems to have stock of many rather surprising items (including the Thunderbolt 2 which has been in production for less than a week and hasn't even been delivered to distributors yet, unless he's making them himself!). If you have to buy now, it will have to be the Rally. If you can wait, I'd suggest you do. EDIT: Also, by the way, these cars are apples and oranges. One's intended to be a pure race platform, the other is a 4wd basher. Does that make your choice easier? |
RE: What do you think of those 2 onroad cars?
by the way man just to add that if your going onroad 23cc is the best choice..........23cc is a proper onroad engine and believe it or not rev 2000rpm higher, the 26cc piston has better low down grunt and when combined with the offroad tyres and gearing shows its low down awesome power..........
so 23cc better onroad 26cc better offroad 26cc is crap on onroad chassis, not enough prm....... its a matter of fact. |
RE: What do you think of those 2 onroad cars?
Guys
Thanks for the feedbacks. Yes the Nutech looks like the best bang for your buck car based on the alloy parts they used. However I haven't heard about anyone who owns one yet..... Actually EngageRC sells 2 versionsof the car, a'stock' one for $799 and the upgraded one for $990. The car will be used mainly for bashing on parking lots. Yes they are both different in many ways butboth have nice attributes unique to themselves. I'm leaning towards the Nutech so far....... RE: What do you think of those 2 onroad cars?
im with Foxy and dc2 man on this, id wait for the nutech but if you can't be bothered waiting then id go for the Carson C5 onroad/ smartech twister, they are great cars for the money.

RE: What do you think of those 2 onroad cars?
Nutech, reason? Lower centre of gravity as the engine is horizontal rather then vertical. Biggest fault with the HPIBaja in my opinion.

Decisions decisions In case you're wondering how I know this stuff, I am in close contact with Nutech all the time, I just completed a review of their 4wd buggy, and will be reviewing the other cars as they are released, there aremany models in the works right now including a monster truck and a Trophy Truck, so I do know when they will be coming, and I can tell you with 1000% certainty, that the GT5-R (that is the name of the alloy on-road car) is not available yet, and will cost $1300 upward. |
RE: What do you think of those 2 onroad cars?
The Rampage Rallye is available now, and is turning out to be a great 4x4 for on-road. Cost is low, and replacement parts are easy to get. If you are looking to just fool around, that is the one I would suggest. There should be a few videos popping up on YouTube in the next week or so.
The Nutech 2 wheel drive looks to be great choice, but at a greater cost. I sell the Rampage line now, and will be selling the Nutechs when it comes out. Different price point vehicles for different uses. |
RE: What do you think of those 2 onroad cars?
Ramtech
Is the Rampage Rallye a V2 like the monster truck? Do they share same parts? Can anybody confirm when the Nutech car is coming out? Thanks JC |
RE: What do you think of those 2 onroad cars?
Yes, the Rallye is the V2 version. There never was a V1 of the Rallye, they come with all the mods already done.

RE: What do you think of those 2 onroad cars?
Go with the Nutech! you will have great support in Aus with PowerSlide Racing being the distributor there. What I have seen of the car it is fantastic and I will be ordering one for myself in the future.

RE: What do you think of those 2 onroad cars?
They are both desirable in their own ways.
For look I'd definitely go with the Nutech. The Ford Mustang body is just a classic and look pretty scale. The alloy parts are a big plus, looks great and hopefully not much more money will be spent on upgradeshttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...msn/greedy.gif But if one want 4WD its the Redcat Rampage..... I'll be using the car just for bashing in parking lots. Does it matter whether its 2WD or 4WD? So far my experience is mainly 2WD with my Baja SS and my experience with 4WD is limited to my rock crawler that goes a max speed of 10kmhhttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...sn/biggrin.gif..... <div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="color: navy; font-size: 10pt">Hi JC,</span></div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt"></div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="color: navy; font-size: 10pt">From my experience having much power only on 2 wheels makes it harder to achieve maximum performance out of the car, it is harder to control, especially in low speed when you hit your throttle hard & the rear wheels just spin in place without any traction, most of my experience with 2WD/4WD is in the Monster category, so it is a bit different with the on road, still the on road cars have smaller tires & less traction than the monster, so I belive tha you will loose traction with the 2wd just as much (or even a bit more…), I think that it really depends on what your are looking for, if you want a very good traction & be able to control the car in high speed turns, without loosing grip, you might want to go with the 4WD, if you would like to drift a lot & to throw the back of the car, then probably the 2WD would be it…</span></div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt"></div><div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="color: navy; font-size: 10pt">Good Luck!</span></div>

Tom
Thanks for your advice..... Drifting......hhmmmhhhmm That's giving me ideas.....http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...ngel_smile.gifhttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...ngel_smile.gifhttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...ngel_smile.gif .... JC |
RE: What do you think of those 2 onroad cars?
PowerSlide Racing has a GT5-R coming with there first batch of ThunderBolt II's so they will be able to give you more details on it very soon.
|
RE: What do you think of those 2 onroad cars?
JC, if its drifting you want to do, then id be going for the 4WD car, much more control and big powerslides to be had! 2WD is no good for drifting.
|
RE: What do you think of those 2 onroad cars?
4wd is better for RC drifting, RWD is better for grip... Tom, I'm sorry but you have a couple of things slightly misconceived there, hope you don't mind me correcting you...
Power to only 2 wheels is more efficient and therefore faster, but obviously car is more twitchy and more inclined to spin out. However, it's amazing how many people fail to realise how well the RWD cars grip with a good set of WARM tires. They grip and turn much better than the 4WD on a track. All things being equal an FG Evo is considerably quicker round a track than an MCD Rally for example, but as you said, requires more skill to drive fast. If you do fancy a bit of drifting, 4wd is the only way to go...but you sacrifice the ability to race it and the knife edge handling of RWD which is very rewarding when mastered. Here are two of my favourite videos in favour of each style... On road racing in Zagreb... And an MCD drifting vid... As you can tell, in terms of throttle response and handling, there is simply no comparison, but you simply cannot drift like this with RWD unless you have GODLIKE skills. |
RE: What do you think of those 2 onroad cars?
Waoh!!! Great drifting videohttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f.../thumbs_up.gifhttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f.../thumbs_up.gifhttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f.../thumbs_up.gifhttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f.../msn/49_49.gif
I guess there would be a lot of wear and tear on the tyres while drifting.....and tyres would have to be changed often and that would cost a lot.....http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...msn/greedy.gif Does the car need special tyres for drifting? My mates racing 1/10 electric often drift using cut PVC pipes glued to their stock tyres. Can we do same with 1/5 large scale cars? That would be a cheap option. A pvc type cost a few $$$ and should last a long time..... Just cut and glued as long as we get the correct diameter of pipe...... Has anybody done that for large scale cars? Would love to try that..... Cheers JC |
RE: What do you think of those 2 onroad cars?
Hi JC, mcd make a hard compound tyre for drifting (whitespot) which are perfect, and being a hard compound, they do last quite a long time, thats what i run on my mcd rally car, i think pvc tubing would be too slippery for these big heavy cars, and would probably crash into something lol, have you considered an mcd?? they are quite a bit dearer, but they certainly worth the extra coin!

RE: What do you think of those 2 onroad cars?
ORIGINAL: JCAustralia A pvc type cost a few $$$ and should last a long time..... Just cut and glued as long as we get the correct diameter of pipe...... Has anybody done that for large scale cars? Absolutely NONE of the 1/10th 'tire' tricks applies to 1/5th, the power curves are wildly different. |
