Wow how come I did not see this when you posted it! Your projects are very nice and interesting. I like that you use thin metal to build strong parts.

Another great creation bud...you got a water jet to cut your plate?

Stigg already sells sand rail 5b chassis's complete or in a kit to weld yourself...maybe more designs will follow;).

it would be nice to see manufacturers follow the tube chassis road also i'd like to see some proper solid axles on tube chassis trophy trucks and MTs...it opens up a myriad of different layouts using all ready available, common components...all the factories seem to be knocking out the same platforms more or less with independent suspension etc and it's getting old...i had cash to buy another rig and after the hurrax pyrad was crossed off my list cos it seems to be ...ahem...rubbish...i was left with nothing that I desired[&o] so i'm going down stiggs road and start building my own

I'm intrigued by the front end setup.
Are you going to use the rose joints (or whatever they're called) just like that for the steering?
I wouldn't have thought you'd get enough movement out of them to turn the wheels, but if that's the case - it's a beautifully simple solution.


Might have to look in to that.

hi cheers guys, yes gonna use the rod ends for steering, with the room in the hubs i can use tappered washers on each side of the rodend to give abit more turn, its never gonna be like a track rod end on its side in swivel motion but as i will only use this wagon at the beach i think the turn circle will be enough

yep he sure does, I've done a few cages in the past and thought it time to go the whole hog, seeing stigg's many awesome creations come together has motivated me to get off my butt and get busy.
first build is a formula off road jeep using, believe it or not:D rampage drivetrain (now i sorted unbreakable diff cups the drivetrain is near bombproof) and braced axles to make them solid...just waiting for my 4130 tube to arrive. if all goes well a corr trophy truck will be next

Your projects make me want to learn to weld and get a tig welder and start to learn:)

I don't know much about welding nor welders but I have been thinking about it for a while. Today I searched a bit about TIG, and I am wondering what is suite for this kind of small scale work (well large scale RC but small scale when it comes to welding!).

Maybe you use the large ones because that is what you do for a living, if that is the case then what would you suggest for small projects, relatively good quality to be able to weld aluminium and relatively thin metal. Also if you know the price range it would be nice!

Random google search suggest that welders like Miller Dynasty 200 SD is a good tig welder but I have no clue as if it is too large or not for hobby use.

Sorry for being off topic but as you seem to use tig welder a lot I figured I could maybe ask ?

mate your whole tool box must be full of vise grips!!!:D

I can use stick, oxy, and Mig...tell me, is the tig like a cross between stick and brazing?
ie strike the arc, then feed in the filler rod?
it's the only one I haven't tried yet.....

it's same technique as oxy/acetylene but with an electric arc instead of gas...much easier with a variable footpedal as well. I just have an industrial hobart mig...wouldn't want to mig 4130 for aircraft use but for rc's it's fine

hi, my tig is a AC / DC as i wanted to weld ally aswell, yes its a electric arc which is more controllable than oxy, i do use a 180amp mig welder aswell as you can weld alot faster but with a bigger fatter weld

got the front shox mount done today with a strut brace, will build the brace out of ally bar with a aduster in the middle
