RE: fg owners!!!
I run steel gears (pinion and spur), not the plastic ones and I have never had an issue running without a gear cover.

RE: fg owners!!!
I have heard about people changing gears less often without the gearcovers than with them. I guess that is because of the heat building up inside the cover making the gears melt and not get enough cooling. And partly for the cover not being totally sealed, some rocks and debris will enter and not getting out.

RE: fg owners!!!
did u guys experienced the gears getting chewed up?when running like in sand or clay?

RE: fg owners!!!
WHen I did run a cover (when running where small rocks could blow the gears out), I had the cover slotted around the entire side using a dremel cutter disk. It took a couple of tries to get it perfect but the final one I was using had good ariflow through it so the gears did not heat up and melt.

RE: fg owners!!!
I ran plastic spurs with metal pinions on my 2 speed with no problems running in gravel pits with open gears. off road with 48 or 46 spur you'll want to invest in some alloy upper rear arms to stop the arm flexing into the 1st spur which then grinds the teeth down.

RE: fg owners!!!
yea i do have alum rear upper arms..i wanna switch to plastic spurs and metal pinion set up instead of metal to metal i guess.
