Question about mounting sprockets

Just wondering what you guys think about this.
Which is the best configuration of grub screws when mounting a sprocket.

RE: Question about mounting sprockets

I ordered that stuff in the picture through a local bearing/hydraulics/machinery parts shop.
They had to order it in from Sydney or Brisbane I think.

Can't remember how much it was as I got them ages ago, but I think it was around the $120 mark all up, with 3 meters of chain and the 4 sprockets.
10, 20 and 40 tooth sprockets.

(#25 chain by the way, same as on pocketbikes and scooters etc)

RE: Question about mounting sprockets

DVP i followed the B way on mine.FG uses it too on their wheel squares. Also, make 2 flats, tighten the screws and drill where the mark from the screw is.Drill only 1-1,5mm;)

I thought I had seen it set up like that somewhere, yes.

Also,make 2 flats
Yes I was planning to do that.
The axle is 1/2 inch and the grubs screws 5mm by the way.

a key way is the best
Yeah but how do you do that in the middle of the axle....?

RE: Question about mounting sprockets

DVP i have many friends who own shops with mills, lathes, cncs ets...They all agree that a keyway on a such a small axle is a big no.First of all a keyway is going to weaken the axle and second is too much a pain in the @@s to make the middle point dead on 90 degrees.I don't say it can't be done, everything can...The question is,is it worth it when you can follow a much easier way?

Also, you have to drill the axle on the flat.I'll take a pic of my old one to show you what i mean

RE: Question about mounting sprockets

Being in the machine tool field myself, every sprocket we ever did or bought had it like option B;)

RE: Question about mounting sprockets

hi mate,
some of my older Korean machines have a brake on a 90 deg G/box.
the pulley is mounted to the shaft via option B.

V belt pulley drive
single phase 1HP motor
G/box shaft has 2 x flats at 90 deg to one another
pulley has 2 x M6 grub screws onto a 14mm shaft.
if thats any help..........
