Default South Florida Slope Soarers Need Your Help

A local group of slope soaring enthusiasts here in South Florida are working along with AMA Flying Site Assistance Coordinator Joe Beshar in an attempt to obtain permission to fly at newly opened Vista View Park, located on the site of a closed landfill in Broward County, Florida. We would appreciate any information, hints, or suggestions that might help us achieve our goal. Tips on the inner workings of Broward County government would be particularly helpful.

For more information, please visit the Vista View Slope Soaring Society's web site at http://www.vvsss.com

Back when Paul Naton made his first "Endless Lift" video, he passed by and flew at a reclaimed land fill in Florida, nicknamed Mount Trashmore. I'm not sure exactly where is was located in Florida, but I'll bet he could tell you, and you could contact the club that fly's there to see how they did it. Bill G.

Sorry, but we are the club that flies there.

We're called the Pompano Hill Flyers. The active landfill we fly at is owned by a company called Waste Management, and dealing with Broward County government is entirely different than dealing with them. That's why we need lots of help. But thanks anyway!

By the way, the landfill is located in Pompano Beach, just east of Florida's Turnpike at the Sample Road exit. If you're going to be in the neighborhood on a Saturday, email [email protected] and I'll see about getting you in for some Mount Trashmore slope soaring.

Sorry, it sounded like you people needed help to aquire a slope site, I didn't realize you already had it. I guess I don't understand what you are trying to do. Hope you get the help you need. We fly slope on a lot of State Forest land here in PA , and all up and down the coast, Outer Banks, (national park land), Skyline Drive, (national park land), etc. with permission. Bill G.

How is old Mount Trashmore doing? I haven't flown there in about 4 years, really miss the old place. I have heard that the sloping has gone downhill in the past few years. I remember when they started building the hill in Davie, looked like it might be a good site. Good luck!

So, is the slope group in South Florida alive? Unfortunately, the vvsss-link is dead - sigh.

Central Floridian wondering if it's worth the drive because I know slope soaring, like float flying, can be more fun than pretty much anything else you do with your pants on!
