Default off set electric motor

I have a Spirit glider with a 6 ft ws I am mounting a pod on top of the wings with an electric motor , it's set up for pull not push. I know the off set for gas engines are down and right, so would the off set for the pod mounted electric motor be up and to the right. ? Thank you for your help Hank

Hey Hank! The off-set for engines/motors is to counteract the lift of the wings (along with the torque of the engine/motor) during powered flight. I don't think it matters at all where the motor is mounted, off-set would still be down & right. However, with the motor above the wing, I'd only off-set the down part of it 1 or 2 degrees and I wouldn't off-set to the side at all.

One the one (and only) glider that I ever used a power-pod with (.049 nitro engine) the pod was designed for zero off-set all around and it worked just fine.

Actually almost all the overwing pods on pylons use about 3 to 5 degrees of UP thrust. This counteracts the tendency to pull the nose down due to the high thrustline location.

And thrust offsets used for such things don't care if it's a glow engine or electric motor turning the prop. Power is power.

Maybe these photos of my Spirit will be helpful. This is a Great Planes Power Pod. There is a glow version too.

This pod was added to a Spirit RTF using a speed 600 and a 7 cell NiCd pack. worked but performace was not great wtih that 15 ounce battery pack. I have not put it on in years but if I did it with a 6 oz 3 cell lipo I am sure the climb would be much better under the wing mount rubber bands.
There is a fin that goes down between the wings and the wing rod goes though it. Actually quote clever. Easy to mount and dismount.

All shots were done with the cover off the power pod but there is a white plastic cover that goes on so that nothing is exposed.

It's hard to say from these photos but it sort of looks like the one of the wing sitting on the table is showing the motor a degree or two pointed upwards.

4-5 degrees up and 0 for the right is the rule of thumb I've always gone with for a pod. Here's the glow driven pod for my big spirit, it's got 4.5 degrees up and works like a charm.

Yes, the motor is pointing upward.  I don't know the degrees but I would guess 5 degrees would be about right.  I don't think there is any right or left to it.
