Man, they sure were good looking birds in the air. I still have access to a new in the box windsong. Probably will be in the box for a long time.

I still fly a bird called the Kamiak. It was a copy of a windsong, but the fuse had some camber to it and when you drop the flaps, it slowed down almost to a stop. The dodgson birds didn't slow down as well. The Kamiak was built by a coupld guys in Washington as well and Bob always ripped the plane up verbally as being a copy of his at the contests I ran into him at. It had a full fuse instead of the taco shell. It is a nice flying bird too. You can hardly tell them apart, as with many models these days.

Bob is a good guy. Always enjoyed flying with him and all the other great guys on the circut.

I have a new in box Camano and a set of Falcon 600 wings on the way for $260. That will make two in my collection of sailplanes.
One I bought VERY ussed and needing TLC. It is a bit heavy now but should do well in the wind. The new one will be for those really great light air days.

If any of you need information and/or parts, etc. of Dodgson stuff, contact Shawn Lenci, he is in Escalon, Ca, and his email is [email protected].

Ha has all of the Dodgson Designs molds, plans, etc., and also usually has a few kits around.

I have a Camano NIB that I'm holding out on to build some day. I'm hoping it flies just as well as the Lovesong I built for my good friend.

Can't wait to get some time to start building again.

rcsoar4fun

Think you pretty much made your own name for a website for the Dodgson models back up in post #19,
when you stated "Would be cool to get a sort of "Third Wind" newsletter going about who is doing what".
"Third Wind for Dodgson Models" would make a great place to share much need information for those tht still fly them.

You might also check with Shawn to make sure you don't infringe in on anything with legalities.
But the idea is great.

I remember flying with Bob when I first started into this hobby years ago. Flying down at Ft. Steilicom park and watching him fly the lift in front of the trees, with fog still licking the tree tops with a Camano. And him being the only in the air. Learned alot that first year. Had one of the Orbiters years ago. Now wish I had not sold it off. To watch my mentors fly the Maestro's was even more awe inspiring since back then they were all frinds in the same locale. What a great time.

Great thread guys. Keep it coming. Thanks for the brief run down memory lane.

Regards,

Lyle

Still miss the Windsong I sold when I moved away from Minnesnowta.

Just finished it when the club had a cross country race. It was a shock to discover it was faster than the pickup truck we used. Should have known but nobody had thought about it. Jeez that was a good flying bird.

Still flying with original mixmaster 3 servo set up: full house. flaps, Spoilers, rudder, (coordinated rudder and ailerons), full length ailerons...all with 3 servos! (3rd generation servos ...took out Kraft servos, put in Airtronics, replaced with Turnigy...3 years ago!..work great.

Modded wings with CF tow out 24" on either side of fuselage top and bottom..Original builder used far to little glue...annoying "popcorn" sounds on even mild winch launches demanded some remedy...simple, light weight ( ish) , effective.

I have a new in the box TODI if anyone is interested. It has the forward glass fuselage section and the formed balsa tail cone. Build instructions and rolled plans. I bought this years ago when I was stationed in Sunnyvale, CA at the Satellite Test Center.

Default Dodgson Designs

Yes, lots of us including Robert still fly his designs... 2 years ago we got him inducted (long over due IMHO) into the AMA Hall of Fame and a crowd showed up to applaud at the District 10 Annual Fly In in Wenatche...,and Bob flew Tom
Johnson’s newly Vacuum Bagged Wing WINDSONG for 1/2 an hour off a HighStart Launch to 600’.. as a demo!
I had my 3m Maestro Mk3 and 2m PIXIE there and a great time was had by all!
Shawn Lenci and family drove up I-5 from his home in Monterey and the Willamette Flyers showed up in large numbers as did folks from Seattle, Idaho and Montana.
So do start a Facebook page. And I will populate it with pictures of mine and the new(to me!) Yellow SABER I now have.

Hey Roger, I love your comment about the pleasure you've received flying Dodgson planes. I'm returning to the hobby after 40+ yrs and recently purchased Lovesong kit in box. Your comment encourages me to stick with it and ready it by Spring.

Would love to find one of Bob's smaller designs, specifically the TODI. From my forum browsing it looks like that may be difficult to find.

Happy flying!!
