Default OMEI 2000 EP

A buddy and I are looking at purchasing the OMEI 2000 EP from CMPairplane. It's carried by giantscaleplanes.com. (http://www.giantscaleplanes.com/Omei_75.htm) It looks to be a chinese ARF. Looks good and seems to have good performance if the specs are accurate. Anybody know anything about it? Was looking at the GP Spectra, but most feel it is underpowered and don't like the balsa spars in the ARF. What do you know about the OMEI?

The airfoil RG 15 is not very good for thermaling it is more suited for slope / dynamic soaring.

It also looks like that this wing loading is not counting the batteries needed for the motor.

A part of this it is a nice looking plane.

I have one in process. It is a very attractive sailplane. It has a fiberglass fuse that is PAINTED not gel coated. I wasn't too happy with the method used to mount the elevator servo as it doen't allow access should a problem arise. I modified the mounting to allow servo removal if needed. The wing is sheeted to the servo bays in the wing which is standard balsa construction. I would not do any strenuous manuvers without first re-enforcing the wing center section joint. I ran two strips of 3M heavy duty strapping between the servo wells. This tape has fibers running accross the tape as well as lengthwise. I have not yet decided on a power train. I have several options available ranging from a hot can motor w/gearbox--a couple of cobalt motors --and a brushless although I think the brushless I have available is a bit much (Krontonic 502).
Not a bad plane for the money.

What are the controls of this glider? Does it have ailerons? What are included in the package when you bought it?

Thanks.

I just got one on ebay too.
Are you using the stock motor/prop?
If you are I would like to know how it preforms...
I flew it with 6 cell 1500mah and barely kept it off the ground

I just got one on Ebay three. Just bought it today. Paid $66.66 (+shipping). Two guys bid within two dollars within the last 60 seconds and almost sniped it out from under me.

This is my second 550-powered glider; I love flying my Kyosho Viento. Six cells is not enough power, you need seven. I use 1900 mah 7 cell packs and get twenty minutes of flight if I try. Tower has good packs; also "Pirahna" (Epic?).

Anyone have any more info to post?

Regards.

Mine came and the wing is finished. The sheet balsa in the wing is a little soft, but other than that, the quality is comparable to my Kyosho Viento, which is a beauty. Will post pics and flight report with the stock system.

Regards.

Hey Mike,
You may have seen it already but here is a great thread on the Omei!
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=177651
I ended up changing the stock motor out and upgrading to 8cells.
Flys great!

I won mine off ebay as well but I got it at 45 dollars. This plane sells for $115 or so from nes or i-care. The stock 550 motor is
okay but you may have trouble launching. A jeti 30/3 brushless is going in mine...
Some have said thermalling with the plane isn't easy but it will do it. Just not as good as the others. If your going to use the 550 motor,
use an inline gearbox. My Raven sailplane has this setup and it flies fantastic with it.

I got an aluminum ball bearing inline gearbox made by MPJet from Hobby Lobby. #MJ8053.

is the omei 2000 set up for one servo in each wing for the aileron or is it just one servo for both wings?

i wanted to get something where i can set up flaps/ spoilers which makes it necessary for the ailerons to be powered
by 2 servos.

thanx.

One in each wing. No rudder though. Spoilerons are a big help; landings are fast (to me anyway).

Hi,
I have used a couple of the MPJET gear box...
I have destroyed them due to their lack of power handling capability, on a speed 400 sized brushless. I now use a ceramic gearbox.

Thanks

does anyone know about how amps the stock 540 motor draws? what size prop does it come with?

i'm thinking of using my 1700 mah 3 cell lipo with it, but not sure if the stock motor/ prop combo would pull too many
amps for this battery (which can handle about 20-25 amps max).

thanx,
brian
