Default Bungeeing a Spirit?

Hello.

Does anybody have ever launched the Spirit by bungee? Ever tried? Using a nose hook or something?

I use to do that all the time with a Zagi similar wing. I´m toying with this idea because a friend does all the time with his F3J (similar to a SPACE, german model), but I´m a bit concerned with the polyhedral and its attitude after launching (don´t wanna smash the plane onto the floor...) [&:]

Catapulting. NO. Don't. You will tear the wings off of it. Now a carbon fiber slope flyer is fun.

HUmmm...that´s true...

With a Spirit Elite would probably work, but with polyhedral things are very different...

If you try it let us know how many micro seconds it took before you blew up the wing. It'd be like trying to catapult a Cessna off a carrier, only thing left on the hook would be the engine after ten feet or so, would prove entertaining to the guys at the field tho.

The wing joiners on the Spirits has a POOR reputation for strength.
A hi-start (not bungee) should be the preferred method, there's a modicum of control of the wing stresses with a hi-start.
A bungee will make the fuselage into a spear!

Right.

I´ve winched my 2m Spirit MANY, MANY times...
When I say WINCH I say F3J winches....

He´s still fine =)

But of course I´ll quit this bungee talking, lol....

F3J winches are whimps compared to what we use.

Take a look at Boyd's web site:

a high start will work, a guy at one of my clubs does it alot. i think he renforced the spar (he lets people learn on it, rebuilt several times) but it should still work

I´ve been using hi-starts for a long time (two years?) for the Spirit 2m. Like I said, also used F3J winches (manual, no one into contests). Just have to ease on the pull and that´s fine.

My histart is able to launch F3J also...launched a TAUARI 3M many, many times with it. It´s 100m fishing 35pounds nylon and 30m of ruuber. Sorry about the meters. (welcome to 21st century )

*** There are NO reinforcements on the spars, just a well assembled model just like the manual said (I never order ARFs, I like to build and know what´s in there )
